Tunisia Ambassador Nagma Fareed's Mangalore Connection

Daijiworld Media Network

Mangalore, May 20: Nagma Fareed Malik, a 1992 batch IFS officer   has been appointed as the new ambassador to Tunisia. She is expected to take charge of her new post shortly.

In fact, Nagma has a strong Mangalore connection. She is the niece of (brother’s daughter) noted Kannada writer our own Sara Abubaker, who has made a name in Kannada literary field.    Mohammed (government servant and his wife Zoola are Kerala-based couple settled in Delhi and Nagma had her education in Delhi.

It is commendable to note that all the three children of Mohammed and Zola have excelled in academics in different fields.  While Nagma has cleared the highly competitive IAS exams, the couple’s eldest son is an Engineer in USA after successfully completing his IIT.  Their third son is serving in Indian Airforce as Wing Commander.

Nagma had served in the Paris office of Indian Foreign Affairs Ministry as representative of United Nations and also in the Embassies of Nepal and Sri Lanka.  She was serving in India’s embassy office at Bangkok in Thailand before being appointed as the Ambassador to Tunisia.

    Dear ABDHULLA:You have given some clarifications about Nagma & your family. Appreciated - all the achievement held by the family. But to my mind what your mother achieved is far greater then others. Just because at her time she had to swim against the tide and succeeded with all might.I want more & more muslim people achieve greater heights in society other then business.This will keep our society in balance and Healthy.
    Regards,

    sathish.

    Congratulations to my cousin Nagma.
    I have to make a few corrections here. Her mom's name is Zulu. Her brother is an Air Force officer not Navy. Her brother in US also has a Phd. She does not hail from Badria family of Mangalore, but Sara Aboobacker's husband (my dad) is. I also want to add few other achievements in the family. Our grandfather was a very famous and one of the earliest muslim lawyers of 1930s till 1970s in Kasaragod. Our uncle was a world famous surgeon who had amputated a British actor's leg in New York with a pen knife from a policeman while on an emergency call. Our another uncle was a martyr who was killed in action during Pakistan war in 1965. He was a captain of the Indian Army.

    @Tony Pinto, Manglore / Dubai,
    Tunisia is now a Islamic fundamental government elected by the people. How far they will be liberal God only knows. The Ambassador Nagma may be forced to wear burqa with naqaab by the shariah, its religious police and clerics. The Photo shown here in the news may be a file photo.

    Congratulations from my heart... All those who acted against Sara Aboobaker especially clergies of that GREAT community should read this achievement.

    Is it possible for those congratulated here to bring this to the notice of those great topiwalhas and beard walahs ? Can we expect some change in them so that future generation of that community will become part of the main stream of society ?
