Chikmagalur, May 21: The Golden jubilee celebration of St Joseph’s Boys’ High School, Jyothinagar, Chikmagalur was held here on May 19 with great fanfare. On the same occasion the new Kitchen Block of the school, donated by the old boys association of the school (St Joseph’s Boys’ Alumni) was inaugurated.

Rt Rev Dr T Anthonyswamy, Bishop of Chikmagalur blessed the new Kitchen Block and Ronald Colaco, NRI businessman, philanthropist and chairman of International Federation of Karnataka Christian Association (IFKCA) inaugurated the same. The kitchen block has been built to prepare mid-day meals for the students. Kishore Kumar Hegde, Managing Director of Life Line Feeds India Pvt Ltd., released the souvenir of the Silver Jubilee year. D.D.P.I of Chikmagalur Kantharaj V M was the guest of honour on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion Bishop Anthonyswamy said the 50 years of the existence of the school should be written in golden letters in the history of the school. “These days we find children losing values of life and education is the only means by which we can reinstate those values among the future generation of this country”, he stated stressing on the importance of the role played by the school in inculcating values among children. He also congratulated the management of the school and its faculty for maintaining the standard and traditions of the school in the 50 years of its existence.

Ronald Colaco who inaugurated the new kitchen block of the school lauded the efforts of the school management in its efforts to provide good education to the students of the locality, keeping in tune with the tradition of christian missionaries who are pioneers in the field of education in the country. Colaco expressed his happiness at the involvement of old boys of the school in the development of the school and said it is the bounden duty of all students to show a sense of responsibility and belongingness to the school from which they have educated and benefitted.

Ronald Colaco also called upon the people to make a firm determination to contribute a small percentage of their savings to show their belongingness to the society from which they have benefitted immensely. He said by helping the society they would be blessed immensely by the almighty in their entire endeavor. “Though there is worldwide recession which has affected the economies of the world I must confess my returns from my business have remained unchanged which shows that by giving we are only gaining and not losing anything”, he declared.

Earlier, the guests were brought to the stage in a procession accompanied by the school band. The programme was formally inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the guests. Old student of the school Narendra Pai welcomed the gathering. M S Jayaram gave report on the alumni  progress and faculty member Francis Lobo gave an account of the school history. The old boys joined the present students on the stage to sing the school anthem.

On the occasion Michael Baptist, old student of the school and the man behind for the formation of the Alumni Association of the school and S Julien D Souza, both achievers in alumni, were honoured by Ronald Colaco. Msgr George D Souza, Vicar General, Diocese of Chickmagalur and president of St Joseph’s Educational Society honoured the teachers of the school. Fr Agnel Fernandes, the Headmaster of the school honoured the first and second batch alumni of the school.

The stage programme was followed by entertainment programme by humourist Narasimha Joshi, Gangavati and Basavaraj Mahamani, Yadagiri.

The golden jubilee celebration at SJBHS was indeed a grand one and it brought back memories of our childhood and school days. I enjoyed the atmosphere on the 19th of May and young or old, every one assembled there was once again a student for those few hours spent at the Alma Mater. No one seems forget the Nursery next to hockey ground and all the little mischief by fellow classmates to get mango or guava and get caught by the nursery staff. Over the years what I have experienced is that The School,The town,The pristine hills of Bababudangiri have left a lasting impression on the minds of each Chikmagalurean, attracting us back like a magnet and we continue to bond! About the School Management: The care, love, dedication, selfless attitude and the sacrifices by the faculty over the years to teach every student good values and high quality education has made each Josephite to excel in their professions wherever they are now! My Namaskaars to all the faculty for their great service in the field of education and character building and they have earned immense goodwill. Great School! Long live SJBHS Chikmagalur!!

Your suggestion is good. Would like to be a part for it. But, the most important, whoever takes the lead, either a person or a committee, I think need to work earnestly and try to contact as many as possible. They also try to communicate/respond for any information sought. In case you want me to be part of the committee, I am more than happy to participate.

I am alumni of the school and in contact with the school by myself or through my sister. Presently I am in Antigua. Enjoyed reading and the photos. I left school in the year 1968. Felt bad that I did not get any information about this memorable event. In fact I had sent few mails sometime last year requesting for information about any plans in general but failed to receive. Whatever I am today is because of my Alma-mater and am proud of it.

Glad to know that SJBHS has become 50 years old institution. I have studied there from 1972-1975. Still I remember and pray for all my teachers, and especially Head masters, i.e.Rev.Fr. M.J.Pinto and Rev. Fr. James Kurisinkal and also Sri Michael Lobo, Sri. Chinnaswamy, Sri. Pandit, Sri. Bhaskar, Sri. Benna, Sri Salvadore. Due to many and unavoidable reasons I didn't have any connection with SJBHS. Now I remember my student life at SJBHS, all my classmates, teachers and everyone without forgetting the nursery (fruit stall) next to our school. I thank Daijiworld for giving this news and I wish all the best to the Admin team of SJBHS>
