Udupi: Mass Prayers Offered for Early Monsoon as Water Level in Swarna River Dips

Udupi, May 22: Due to the drinking water scarcity witnessed in the limits of the town council and Udupi legislative assembly constituency, owing to depleting water levels in Swarna reservoir, mass prayers were offered to God, led by MLA K Raghupati Bhat on Monday May 21.
Mass prayers were offered to please the rain gods for the much-needed monsoon at Sri Krishna Mutt and Ananteshwar temple, in the presence of Swami Vishwavallabateerta of Paryaya Mutt on Monday morning.
Addressing the gathering, Bhat said that the water level in the Swarna River had depleted this year as moderate rains had not arrived in November and December.
Vedavyasa Aithal, temple priest of Ananteshwar, after offering the ‘puja’ said that it has rained in the past when mass prayers were offered to the temple deity. He hoped the people’s plea for rains would be granted by God at the earliest.
Assistant commissioner Kumar, town councilor Arun Kumar, municipal commissioner Gokuldas Nayak, Vasanti Shetty, Geeta Ravi Shet, Satyanarayan Shet, and Yashpal Suvarna were present on the occasion.
