NDA Opposes Petrol Price Hike, Calls for Bandh on May 31

New Delhi, May 24 (PTI): Opposing the steep hike in petrol prices and spiralling prices of commodities, NDA has called for a nation-wide bandh on May 31.

NDA convenor and JDU President Sharad Yadav said that all the partners of the opposition alliance have been consulted in this regard.

The alliance will also be talking to other parties for their support to the Bharat bandh.

Rejecting Government's argument that the hike in petrol prices has been done by petroleum companies as the pricing of petrol stands deregulated, Yadav said, "This is an eyewash... We (NDA) are going to observe a Bharat bandh on May 31."

He asked why the hike in petrol prices was not announced when Parliament was in session and why oil companies did so the very next day after the session got over.

"Government has washed his hands off the decision on price hike but in reality it happens only when the Government wants. The Government will also be increasing prices of diesel and LPG after the Presidential elections get over," Yadav said.

The JD(U) chief accused the Government of being a "total failure" in checking prices of essential commodities.

"Common people are suffering due to wrong policies of the UPA Government. Prices of commodities are rising uncontrollably making it difficult for an average Indian to make both ends meet," he said.

This Government is pro-rich and not bothered about the poor, he charged.

Yesterday, oil PSUs had increased the price of petrol by Rs 7.50 per litre.

    Dear Readers,
All that political parties can do is splatter mud over one another....and BJP is found a chance now....If BJP would be ruling side even congress would do the same...And shame on all the people who are fighting with each other in support of one of these stupid parties.... I can bet one thing, neither congress nor BJP will bring about any change anywhere... Shame on all the political parties who use situations like this to tarnish the image of one another... No wonder the whites & europeans feel that Indians are stupid and inferior....

Because of such attitude we ourselves are spoiling the image of our own country.... No party is having sympathy about anyone....Ultimately its the chance of one party to screw the nation after the other party has screwed it for 5 yrs...same thing is happening with NDA & UPA.... Guys stop fighting and get together, work hard to develop the country instead of posting some rubbish comments here...And finally dont blame any political party for petrol hike.... India is one of the highest consumer of petrol because of a huge number of vehicles compared to any country in the world.... Of course the prices of petrol is cheaper in Pakistan, srilanka, nepal because they are highly underdeveloped countries, obviously the petrol consumption is very low and hence the petrol rates are very low. Also the above mentioned countries are having higher corruption rate than India...

Please go through the internet and the statistics and understand whats going on in the world than to come here and make some rubbish comments. Mangalore is known for smart and serene people all over the world...please dont spoil Mangalore's Image in this forum

So wonderful comments of all our readers. If the "Barath' Bandh is for a day, it is waste. Should be like 'AIR INDIA ' for many days, before that next edition IPL to be organised so people can enjoy as well earn in betting illegally no need of working. No use of blaming Government, the real reason is our own country people (Public) Better to start Robbing Rich/business people, should be start from the Politician's houses n business people. The best way for reduce the PETROL price is to reduce the Tax's.

No need of Blame game, If it's Congress, or BJP etc...all are same. Now Mr.Anna, should be strong in his stand, so every thing will be alright, but our support to him should be in big way and should be very strong. Instead of doing the protest in India in a strong way, people are doing in Dubai, that also from the Mumzar Beach Park, instead of the main point from Mina Bazaar. Here we can make out the people's mentality, when people are living on a beautiful and peaceful City like Dubai, living with peace of mind and enjoying all the facilities. But trying to play the dirt game like India's.

Anyway, waste of time, let's hope for the best and will try in practically to avoid the difficulties. No reason in blaming Italian led Government, first of all try to meet her personally and take a chance to convince her how to lead India, the way people are play the blaming game. If china can support to their own citizen in big way and they earn in a hard way to survive, why don't our Indian Citizen's can do the same. We waste our time in blaming each other, don't spend time in a real way.

All are aware that UPA Govt is a corrupt Govt. But all should know than NDA & other opposition parties also corrupt and some worse than UPA. So blaming on political parties will not make any sense. All the political parties are corrpt irrespective of Congress or BJP.
Now NDA is blaming on UPA but NDA also done the same when they were in power. Why make drama now.?
I am not supporting any particular party, but when the Govt fails to manage the economy effeciently they should step down and I feel first all the political parties shoudl ban from India and Governer Rule shoudl implemented.

In Central UPA is looting India and in State BJP is planning to seel Karnataka. :) Thank God,coz Yeddy is no more CM of Karnataka or else he would have denotified and sold the whole karnataka to his family.!

Petrol must be of round figure. Rs.100/Ltr. So that traffic may be reduced. International oil prices are going down. Just to help oil co's UPA has increased prices before the downfall for crude may begun. Wrong policy killing the poor man. Not a single oil co. Is loosing check share market doing good profit. All these are excuses.

Foolish people. Trying to take advantage of the situation.
Bandh is not a solution. We have to revamp our political system or else we are in a grave danger situation.
We have to built a two party political system in india instead of 100 parties and everything else will follow.

Eight years back my son was only 8 year's old and was eating very little now he is 16 year's and eats a lot what to do. I think even the salaries were less eight year's back and every thing was costing less. Its simple rupee has fallen, we have buy in dollars from abroad but in india we have to pay in rupees. The most wise thing to do is instead of blaming the govt for all failures its better to use it wisely.

As per my knowledge this has to do with the corrupt money which will be spent without any account, if we spend on need basis 80% of our problems will be controlled. Rich people do not hesitate to spend money on fuel which will not be any useful only burnt away. I belive the hand rickshaw's of Bengal are a good idea the money paid to the puller will be utilised by him unlike the engine, he will also stay healthy. These types of travels will be handy for short distances. We will be avioding pollution also.

The subsidy for all comodities should be scrapped with immediate effect by central and state governments. In the name of "SUBSIDY" politicians are making money.Every family is having one vehicle per member -rich or poor/working or non working. The best way is- use mass transport, which is far better nowadays compared to Y90's.In the name of subsidy and reservation, India is going backwards, despite having resourses. If opposition comes to power, they also do the same thing. Finally rotten eggs in the same basket..... Let us have slogan for NDA for the coming bandh day-"BUNDH every SUNDAY SAVE fuel ONE DAY"

ITS A VERY GOOD MOVE FOR THE BANDH BEING CALLED BY THE NDA AND OPPOSITION ON MAY 31ST TO PROTEST THE HIKE IN PETROL PRICES BY A HUGE RS 7.50 BUT LET THIS BANDH BE PEACEFULL AND NON DESTRUCTIVE SINCE DESTRUCTION WILL CAUSE MORE BURDEN ON THE COMMON MAN AS THIS DESTRUCTION WILL BE MADE GOOD WITH MORE TAXES COLLECTED FROM THE B PUBLIC.NOW THIS IS A PERIOD FOR ALL PARTIES TO GET TOGETHER AND COME TO A COMMON MINIMUM PLAN THAT SAFEGUARDS THE INTEREST OF THE COMMON MAN AS WELL AS THE GOVT ,SINCE THIS GOVT IS OURS WHETHER IT IS UPA OR NDA THE BRUNT IS FELT BY THE PEOPLE WHO VOTE AND NOT THE PARLIMENTARIANS,THEY GET THEIR ALLOWANCES THEIR PERKS THEIR BENEFITS BEFITTING THEIR POSITIONS AND EVEN MORE 2G ,CWG, IPL,AND OTHER KICKBACKS.IT IS FOR US COMMON PEOPLE TO VOICE OUR DISGUST AND DISTRESS MORE VOCIFEROUSLY AND EVEN OUR ANGUISH AT SPIRALLING PRICES OF DAILY COMMODITIES BECAUSE OF THESE FUEL PRICE INCREASES.LET ALL PARTIES PLEASE BE SINCERE ABOUT YOUR CONCERN FOR THE COMMON MAN AND DECIDE POLICIES BENEFITTING THEM.THE DAY IS NOT FAR WHEN PEOPLE WILL BE FED UP OF THIS DEMOCRACY IN WORDS ONLY AND NOT IN PRACTICE AS SOME CITIZENS EXPRESSED IN THE NEWS THE REACTION TO FUEL PRICE INCREASES.POLITICIANS BE SERIOUS OR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FACE THE PEOPLES ANGER AND PATIENCE FOR LONG.THIS IS A WAKE UP CALL PUT YOUR ACT TOGETHER AND ACT IN FAVOUR OF THE COMMON MAN

Dear all... dont think this is the hike in petrol instead it is the development of INDIA by UPA(so called Congress) Government.8 year back when NDA was in power the petrol price was Rs. 32 per ltr. but this UPA Govt. has developed the price to Rs. 80 per ltr. which is a great achievement from UPA to Develop India.

Why can't all NDA ruled States reduce their respective local taxes? Karnataka must take the first lead, because the State must be raking in Rs 20 or 25 or is it Rs 30 on every litre of petrol, which must be know. If Petrol users are to pay for Rupee's fall against Dollar, why can't Diesel users be asked to share the burden? Why should petrol users must be made to suffer every time?
