Mangalore, May 24: Vidya Dinker, convener of Citizens' Forum for Mangalore Development, along with four others were arrested by Pandeshwar police near DC office here on Thursday May 24.

They were arrested in connection with their ongoing protest against MSEZ's alleged dumping of soil into Gurpur river for road widening at Kulur.

A group of 10 persons led by Dinker visited the DC's office to discuss the issue with deputy commissioner Dr Channappa Gowda. However, when they were not allowed to meet the DC, an argument is said to have ensued, and in the heat of the moment the group allegedly stopped the DC's car and is learnt to have created chaos. Earlier reports had claimed that Dinker had allegedly pushed the DC, however, police later confirmed that her group had only stopped the DC's car and hence hindered his work.

Pandeshwar police arrived at the spot and took five persons including Dinker into custody at around 5.30 pm.

The others arrested are Godfrey, Jacinta, Arun D'Souza and Latha. None bailable cases under sections 143 and 149 (member of an unlawful assembly), 147 ( rioting), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 341 (wrongful restraint), and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code have been registered and all five are likely to be produced before the district magistrate on the same night.

B V Seetaram of Karavali Ale paper, Asha Nayak of child welfare committee and Muneer Katipalla of DYFI visited the arrested in the police station.

The MSEZ work which was suspended for a few days resumed on May 24. Earlier in the day the locals learnt of the development and began protesting at the spot and tried to stop the work. Around 70 people were arrested and sent to Panambur and Suratkal police stations, and were later released.

It has become the habit for these dirty politicians, bureaucrats and even police . .who ever question their wrong doing will be put behind bars by false case. This DC is the most corrupt one Mangalore ever had. His secret agenda is to help MSEZ no matter how many people die in this. He has forgotten that he is public servant not of MSEZ . . or is he been offered a GOOD job post his retirement?! LOL just a though !

In U S the MSEZ officials & D C will be arrested for polluting river & hindering free flow of river by dumping soil into it thereby changing course of the river which is a nature's gift to all living beings.

Come on D C you are Servant of People & not Landlord or King. The British Raj rules still exist to stifle peoples protest for right cause.

Why Sad-ananda Gowda helping industrial mafia?

Rivers should be d National Resources & Environmental Clearance with feasibility study should be compulsorily conducted to avoid future disasters- which UPCL has violated till date & people are suffering since its inception.

Protest made for the right cause , protest made by people for the people, They were arrested in connection with their ongoing protest against MSEZ's alleged dumping of soil into Gurpur river for road widening at Kulur. What is the mistake protesting against this? Government Department cannot fool the people, if some are arrested rest will run from the ground,? and officials can do their work without any problem, But it won’t happen government officials made a big mistake, now real game will start wait and see, join hands with hands come out from the dark, fight for real cause, and you all will win, Jai ho Karnataka, political party get up fight for this if you are real servant of citizens, pay the interest of the peoples Vote. Dr Channappa Gowda get well soon otherwise flowers will come tomorrow

I can vouch for Dinakar as I know her personally. She has risked her life for the sake of Right Cause in Mangalore and this is a falsely implicated case by deputy commissioner Dr Channappa Gowda. 3 ladies and two men, that too educated people they do not know how to behave during discussion with deputy commissioner Dr Channappa Gowda? Cannot imagine. It might be other way round.

Here is the issue is MEZE dumping mud into Gurpur river. If there is an heated argument with deputy commissioner Dr Channappa Gowda, that means deputy commissioner Dr Channappa Gowda also hand in gloves with the MEZE/land mafia.

Because of govt. official lethargic attitude towards justice and they abuse power, movement likenaxalism, maoists have flourished in India. Those who fight for justice, they will have to face all these hurdles of lies, false implication of cases etc.
