Mangalore: Family Tries to Stop MSEZ Work on its Land, Assaulted

Mangalore, May 25: Four persons of a family, including two children, were injured after MSEZ officials allegedly assaulted them for trying to hinder their work on a land that supposedly belongs to the family.
The incident took place at Nellidadi Guttu in Bajpe here on Friday May 25.
The MSEZ is in the process of acquiring land for development. On Friday, MSEZ workers are said to have begun levelling land belonging to Laxman Chowta who resides in the area.
According to a complaint lodged by Chowta, MSEZ contractors Raghavendra Holla, Krishnaraj Mayya and his brother, along with Subhash Padil, Sunil and Shantigudde Pachchu assaulted Chowta, his son Kishore Shetty, Mohini Shetty, Prafulla and Kishore's children Nirikshit and Bhavya Shetty.
The family is said to be owning 50 acres of land, on which MSEZ allegedly began work without seeking permission or acquiring it.
Chowta said that when he and his family members tried to stop the work, the contractors assaulted them.
Kishore, his children Bhavya and Nirikshit and Chowta were injured in the incident and taken to Wenlock hospital.
A case has been registered in Bajpe police station.
