Dubai: In 24 Hrs, Radio Spice's Moving Appeal Raises Dh 1,20,000 for Little Boy

Daijiworld Media Network - Dubai

Dubai, May 26: Until two months ago, Saurav was a bubbly 8-year-old boy studying in the third grade in the Indian High School.

Since April 26, he's been lying in Al Rashid Hospital, battling brain tumour and fighting for his life.

It is the story of a brave boy who has already undergone four surgeries, coping with immense pain with courage.

It is also the story of thousands of large-hearted UAE people, who rushed to his help and enabled him to have yet another successful surgery and put him on the track to recovery.

Saurav's story was first carried by a UAE newpaper and then picked by Radio Spice 105.4. Kritika, an RJ with the radio station, presented a moving account of Saurav's condition, and talked to his father Sunil Kumar.

In their conversation, Sunil broke down and appealed to the listeners to pray for his son. He described the misery the family was going through, especially Saurav's mother Vijayalaxmi who just cannot bear to see her son writhing in pain. Vivek, a close family friend said how he shared a special bond with Saurav, and how the little boy was always cheerful and popular in his school.

Saurav had been continually suffering from back pain, headaches and eyesight problem. He was taken to several doctors, who treated him for short sightedness and prescribed medicines for back pain. However, his condition deteriorated and he began vomiting too.
Only after a CT scan was his ailment diagnosed.

What the radio programme resulted in was nothing short of a miracle. People across the UAE were moved to tears, and within 24 hours of the radio appeal, pooled in an extremely generous Dh 1,20,000!

Also, Dh 80,000 had been already collected with the help of donors and fund raisers in his school. In addition, associations like Al Khail Gate Malayalis Association (AKGMA) raised funds using their contacts and through Facebook.

The word had spread far and wide. People from all over the UAE contributed whatever big and little they could, in the hope of saving the life of a little boy and see him running around again.

Their generosity and prayers paid off. Saurav went through a successful surgery and the doctors, who at one point of time couldn't guarantee whether he would be in school again, are now full of confidence that Saurav would be back to his best soon.

Radio Spice had hundreds of people sharing their comments, and thanks to the effotrs of the entire team at the radio station, a nobel cause was realized.

Truly, it was not just a life that was saved, it was an entire country coming together for a little boy.

Radio Spice 104.5 is promoted by Herman Lewis, a Mangalorean.
