Bantwal, May 27: It’s a shanty, with a broken cot, a woman weeping over the tragic death of her husband. Two children wail for their father who was killed in an unfortunate accident. An elderly woman sits in a corner, crying softly.

The family's breadwinner, Umesh, who was on his way home on Wednesday May 23 night was hit by a truck. The family is now shattered, left alone in the hands of a cruel fate.

40-year-old Umesh was a native of Narahari Nagar, near Kalladka, husband of Sasikala, a housewife engaged in bidi rolling. They have two daughters - 10-year-old Dhanyasree studying in class V at Kalladka Government Higher Primary School and 8-year-old Harshita in class III. Umesh loved caring for his elderly mother, Lalita. He was a welder by profession and was running a garage since many years. He was friendly and hardworking.

On May 23 night, Umesh was returning home with milk and snacks from a shop at Kalladka near here, when tragedy struck. Umesh was nearing his home, when a speeding truck rammed into him, killing him instantly.

He was building a new house on his small plot for the past 2-3 months. The entire family was living in a shanty beside the underconstruction house. The tragedy has indeed shaken the family.

The family of Umesh, consisting of his elderly mother, wife and two daughters, is now without a breadwinner. Umesh was the youngest among two sons of the late Annu Poojary, who passed away in tragic circumstances when he fell while chopping bamboo 14 years ago. Umesh’s elder brother Vasant Poojary succumbed to rabies when he was in class VII. The tragic death of Umesh has indeed pushed the family into deep misery.
