Mangalore: RSS Collage on DK Police Website Raises Eyebrows

Mangalore, May 27 (Bangalore Mirror): As faux pas go, this one is of gigantic proportions. The official website (www.dkpolice.org) of the Dakshina Kannada district police displayed a collage of pictures which appeared to extol the virtues of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on its home page. The collage showed RSS volunteers in their trademark khakhi shorts marching in order and engaging in social activities.

Administrative arms of the government are supposed to be secular, but the pictures suggest otherwise and are cause for alarm, especially since pubs and churches in Mangalore, the headquarters of the district, have repeatedly borne attacked, allegedly by Hindu activists.

The Dakshina Kannada police is probably the first unit in the state to use the Internet as a tool to build a connect between police and the public. B Dayananda, the former superintendent of police (SP) of the district, had launched a blog (spdk.blogspot.com), while the website was launched in 2009. It is being revamped by Abhishek Goyal, the current SP.

The collage has been on the website for more than a year and has seen more than 2 lakh visitors. But when contacted, Goyal said, “I am unaware of this. It’s a bad mistake. The website is still in the process of being re-launched. The developers, Hyderabad-based Zest Wings, are doing the revamping of the website free of cost and they must have used random pictures for testing. We will take immediate action.”

Within minutes of the call, the entire site was pulled down and replaced by a single page which bore the message ‘This site is under construction’.

Pratap Reddy, the inspector general of police (Western range) was unavailable for comment, but AR Infant, the in-charge DG&IGP of the state, said he was unaware of the images. “Police department websites are meant for the department and the public,” Infant said. “I was unaware of it. I will look into it and speak to officers concerned.”

It's a shameless public department who survives licking politicians' and communalists' boots which is into it. The communalists don't pay them salaries we pay. But the rss has filtered into & dictates terms to police and the police shamelessly indulge into these. Shame on police.
Serve the citizens of India, not lick RSS boots. Shame on you.

The truth is coming out. There should be a thorough overhaul of the whole police system.
Sir, the world is watching the hidden saffron agenda of the Karnataka Govt Departments. Now we understand why the police was partial in those repeated Saffron attacks on the Muslim college students and the Christian Churches.
In India, competitive elections, positive discrimination and involvement of diverse social forces have created space for popular participation in India. But, our democracy faces challenges from corruption, poverty, fickle coalitions, regionalism, and violence. Real decision-making is controlled by powerful elite groups. Sovereignty is conceived in terms of powerful governments, not free citizens democracy begins and ends with the ballot box. Only Parliament is exposed to the public mandate. Hence India remains a poorly governed region which may have contributed to its overall weak development and the fact that mass poverty among the minorities and SC/ST in the region has been perpetuated to point where the largest numbers of the world’s poor are located in South Asia.
Please remember, India has been ridden with civil tensions ever since the first signs of dissent in Kashmir during the forties. Since then, various ethnic groups in Punjab, Haryana, Tamilnadu, Assam, and Northeast India have demanded political rights and even autonomy to form a state that would protect their interests. The assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi highlights the culture of political violence prevailing in the country since independence.
The clarion call of developing India is to either change in its governance or be prepared to get perished.
    Satyameva Jayate! Jai Hind!!

Always, when they encounter uncomfortable questions and situations, our politicians and police alike say "I am not aware of it". "I will look into it". In the process they buy time, wriggle out of the situation temporarily, and as is always the case, matter dies out of public memory. Whether the police officer responsible for validation of the site has been suspended or dismissed??.

Balme ourselves for letting this happen, for too long we have kept quiet as it "did not affect us" so the attitude was "miggel ratavulie nakka ne wey" amgel kaam amchak

Well....we can only hope that this was a mistake . Also, the fact that the website is not accessible now only shows that probably the Department was really unaware of these pictures being on their website as their website is still being revamped.
However after this the Law enforcement agency has to make sure that they instill confidence in the general public & try to remove from their minds any doubts / apprehensions that may have cropped.
I hope the new website projects a honest picture of the DK Police.

@Gerald, you are twisting the meaning of secularism. Not having religious photos in public is not secularism!!!I have seen Jesus photos on buses, I have seen Arabic scripted/Mecca photos in buses and I have seen Rama/krishna's photos also in buses. That is secularism. Just because you see tha Rama/Krishna's Photos in abundant because that religion is in majority, do not say no photos to be displayed. Your type of secularism only leads to disaster.

What is so surprising? We are no longer a 'secular' country. Fundamentalist thinking is on the rise. People who do not know the meaning of Ram Rajya, nor know to live by the spirit of Ram Rajya are destroying this nation. Violent brutes among the saffron outfits have been using a great visionary and a broad minded spiritual leader like Swami Vivekananda as their icon!!

What an irony... Anything can happen in this our beloved country. Many of them in the police force undoubtedly are really 'saffron'(in the pejorative sense)..but wear Khakhi outside... This is the tip of the iceberg.. There is more to come... comments like Sejal Shah's reveal a lot.
