Lion snatched a stunning win in 2012 Royal Cup by defeating host team Royal by 100 runs in SM Yanya ground, Bhatkal here on Saturday May 26.
 
Team Lion were eagerly waiting to win Royal Cup for 16 years and this is the third appearance for them in the Royal Cup finale. In 1997, they lost against Manki NSA and in 2004 against Royal.

The final started at 10.30 am wherein Lion skipper won the toss and elected to bat. Lion lost 2 wickets for just 3 runs in 3 overs. Muazam (32) and Imran (35) saved the day with their 65-run partnership for the third wicket. The team lost three more wickets in just 11 runs. Anfal (28 not out, 32 balls, two fours,) and Shees Mulla (36, 19 balls, two 6's and four 4's) made a valuable 51 runs partnership for the 6th wicket, which helped them to put up a target of 198/6 from 25 overs.
 
Skipper Waseem Asarmatta (50) smashed seven boundaries and three towering sixes in his 19-ball knock.
 
For team Royal a much cherished dream came crashing down at the SM Yahya ground when they lost quick wickets in their chase. Skipper Abu Mohammed (21) and Hassan(18) scored for Royal. The team managed to score only 98 runs in 21.5 overs.
 
Anas Mulla bowled extremely well and picked up 5 wickets. Anas Mulla (5/20), Sadiqeen (3/10), and Faheem (1/36) were the star bowlers for Lion.

Hifzurrahman Barmawar (owner of Square Real estate and developers Mangalore), Imtiyaz udyawar (convener of Royal Cup 2012), Sajjad Kola (sports secretary of Bhatkal Muslim Youth Federation were present.
 
As many as 28 teams participated in the tournament. In the semi-final Royal beat Beena Vidya  and Lion defeated Sunshine. 261 sixes, 1528 fours, 44 fifties and a hundred were scored in this fourth season of Royal Cup.
 
Mohammed Arkam Muallim, member of Royal Sports Center was honored for his achievements and success in Indian Air Force team from the past several years. Bhatkal Muslim Youth Federation president, Moulana Ansar Madni in his address said the game should be like wining the hearts and congratulated both teams for making it to the finals.
 
Hifzurrahman Barmavar, owner of SQUARE, Imtiyaz Udaywar, Convener, Arkam Muallim, Wania Basha, Moulana Shakeeb, Royal Sports Center general secretary, Abdul Khalique, Abdur Rasheed, BMYF Sports secerary Sajjad Kola, Sami Medical, Naseef Khalifa, Shabbar Mohtesham, Shariar Ruknuddin and many others were present at the closing cermony.
 
A silver coin for match toss was sponsored by Square Real Estate and Developers, Mangalore.
