Mangalore: District-level Convention Focuses on Welfare of Differently-abled

Mangalore, May 28: A district-level convention of differently-abled persons organized by the Dakshina Kannada district federation for the physically challenged was inaugurated at Town Hall here on Monday May 28.
 
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the convention.

On the occasion scholarship of Rs 500 to 50 children, kitchen sets, 6 wheelchairs, 6 tricycles, 5 hearing aid instruments, 25 crutches, school bags and stationary items were distributed to the needy.
 
B G Trust Mangalore and district differently-abled persons’ welfare department sponsored the equipment while scholarship and school bags were sponsored by Anand Shetty, a city-based entrepreneur.
 
Delivering his blessings, Shree Gurudevananda Swamiji, Shree Kshetra Odiyoor said that people in society should motivate and imbibe self-confidence among differently-abled persons. "Being handicapped is not a curse. Serving the underprivileged section of the people is in itself pratice of religion," he said.
 
None of the district officials including ADC Dayanand, ZP CEO Dr Vijayprakash, CWD officers ascend the dais as election code of conduct for council elections was in place. However, their presence was wholeheartedly appreciated by the organizers.
 
Ashok Kumar P, one of the office-bearers of DK district federation for the physically challenged, said that most of the schemes for differently-abled were not reaching the deserving in full scale. He urged the government to focus more on the differently-abled persons.
 
Subbaiah Shetty Lingamarugutthu, honorary president of the federation presided. Dr Ravichandran, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Dinesh Shetty, Madhava Ullal, Vijaya Vittalnath Shetty, Rohith Shetty among others were present.
