Mangalore: With Two Persons, One PC for 28 Villages, Govt Centre Frustrates Public

Mangalore, May 28: A sorry state of affairs at a government centre has resulted in nearly 250 to 300 people, especially senior citizens and children, standing in long queues for nearly 5 to 6 hours every day especially over the past one week, many times in vain.

Nemmadi centre, an outlet of the panchayat that works on contract basis in Suratkal is a typical example of lackadaisical attitude of the government and the frustrated public.

People are fed up with the system followed by this centre. Located in Suratkal, it covers nearly 28 villages. It has been functioning here for almost 8 years and recently shifted to a new premises. All the government documentation works like issuance of RTC, income certificate, education related certifications, caste certificates and so on are done in this centre.

But the centre has only one lady staff, with one girl to help and only one computer. This speaks volumes about the carelessness of the department concerned and the contractor as well. Most of the time, people are sent back, the common reason being 'server down'. No power for a day means the centre is closed. Last week there was no power for three days and the centre was shut down on all three days. It is quite obvious that the work load is heavy after long leaves, but no alternate measures have been taken to cope with the situation.

The centre has generator facility to tackle power cuts, but it is never used. When people question, they are told that there's no kerosene to run the generator!

Queues at the centre are often long, and having no sufficient staff, it takes a long time to deal with each person. The people have to wait standing in the sweltering heat, without even drinking water facility for them. There are no seating arrangements either, not even for senior citizens.

Speaking to Daijiworld, local corporator Revathi said that she had been to the centre for an RTC related work. Realizing the problems of the people, she contacted the officials concerned and spoke to them. The tahsildar promised to put another system and more staff on Monday. "But it seems like he has failed to fulfil his promise," she said.

Of late, there are lots of students present in the line, especially those who have got their CET results and need some documents like income and caste certificates. One of the students told Daijiworld that the deadline to submit the documents was last Saturday, but due to the closure of this centre for three days, they were here on Monday May 28. They also expressed fears of their future being affected due to this delay.

A farmer explained that he was in queue from 8 am and the staff came in at 9.30 am. He wants to cultivate certain crops, and in order to get them, he has to submit the land RTC documents. This is the only centre where he can get his RTC. After two days, he will not even get the crops, he says, sadly adding that it was the third time he was coming to the centre to obtain RTC.

When contacted, the contractor said that the problem was due to the power cut on three days last week, because of which everyone rushed to the centre on Monday. On the contrary, people said that this sort of rush is at the centre since nearly one week.

Whatever may be the case, the pain of the people puts the officials on the wrong side. One can only hope that appropriate arrangements are made to facilitate them, or at least alleviate their problems. The need of the hour, in short, is a better equipped staff, along with more computers, seating arrangements, token system, and drinking water, to name a few.

Is anyone listening?

    Dear Joel
What you said is right by reducing taxe's the Govt can cut down on fuel price but till when ??? Will this inflation stop ? Supposed the state cuts down VAT on fuel and some other taxes, then whats the gaurantee that fuel pricess may not be hiked again ? Has fuel prices ever ped ? What will you ask to then ? Tommrow or day after if the Desiel prices are increased either Truck Transport will go on strike or increasetheir charges. Obviously prices of basic commodities will go most prominently MILK. Then Perinje will shout HAI...HAI, BJP Govt down down, you have made difficult for us to live, or KMF is making money or looting the state without properly understanding the root cause for the whole issue is the fuel Inflation.
Yes Even I ask for removel of VAT & SES on petrol, but I dont see much hope with this one step. It may only be temperory solution. The Givt just finished its Budget session sme months back so I believe it may not be that easy to do this at this moment unless some miracle happens. In the next session if this Govt survives, the Govt should think about alternatives for revenue inflows may be by keeping it high for luxury items or things like Cigarates or Booze. One way or the other down the line directly or indirectly, every new taxes will only lighten your pockets or savings thats it .

    Dear Ismail
Thanks for acknowledging that something better is being done done other than your noncongress Govts too which is otherwise according to you. You guys were only making LOOTUNA KENDRA in ANDHRA.
Talking about reducing VAT, as of now this is a reevenue for the state Government and the dtate Budjet is decided based on the revenue inflows. It is not any GUJIRI ANGADI cash bos to close or open whenever you want. The Govt may decide it during the Govt Session. Today you will tell to reduce the VAT, & tommmorow you wwill cry telling that the treasury is empty thanks to BJP's wrong policies.

By the by How much will this benifit the people of Karnataka ? How many times should the state reduce this VAT & how many times the center will increse the prices if it remains in the rule untill 2014 ?. Imagine if the state reduced all the tax, is it Gauranteed that the center will not increse the prices from now on, by taking steps to maintain a good GDP and increasing the exports & may be make rupee strong ??? Stop striking your hypocrite nerve and tell me whats the logic in incresing more than 10% & then asking state to reduce the tax by may be 2%????Is there Petroleum ministry in country or are they even clueless like your aviation Dept ??? any comments !!!

    Golden/mangalore and such guys -
forget abt congis - that as u said and a handful others always say 60 years -alright they did not do anything - what is stopping 5 year BJP government - is there any improvement - is the so called supporters of BJP questioning their masters why things are same like congis govt. - you are all punks to say 60 years so and so - change all that - if u find problems face them - congis faced all those problems and improved the country so you punks can have computers/mobile/nice house etc - because during their time technology went ahead/ your punks salary went up - u could go to a better restaurant than the street side coffee shop - ur wife/children could wear better clothes jeans etc - it is all because of the developement taken place during congis and not during BJP rule - BJP people already know how they are robbing the state - and u punks praise them - get lost - u are all shameless

Exactly Mr Perinje. You are saying as if this center was resort before BJP came to power. Just that media did not publish this before it does not mean that during your congress rule they served BONDA here for visitors and there was personnel representitive for each and every visitor. This place was bad before and its continued now and its true that the current govt also did not take anysteps to make this place more people friendly.
About why or whom people will vote will very shortly decided in Andhra Bypoll and next Gujrath polls.
Thirdly BJP supportors may have to convince the agitated peoples of Surathkal, but where where you when you had convince the agitated public of whole India 1 week back when your UPA Govt gave citizens of India 7.50 Rupees Petrol Bond on the occasion of 3rd year birthday ?. Youa re talking as if it was Ramarajya under congress rull !!!

Pity to see the scene of this kind.People are waiting in such a pathetic condition, end result is come tomorrow. What a answer? It is always easy said than done. How patient people should be to get their work done under this situation. One lady, one helper, one computer.Wah!what a funny!!see the serpentine Que.If the trend like this continues, one day Nemmadhi become samaadhi of the people.Act before it is too late and go beyond out of control of the people.Concerned department, authorities, officials must think on it and make some other alternative arrangement to meet the situation like this.Awake arise, still time is not too far.Try to understand the agony, pain, sufferings of the people what they are undergoing?Don't sit at your house on your cushion sofa and see the fun of the people.
