Mangalore, May 28: In the wake of the nationwide bandh called by BJP and its NDA allies against the hike in petrol prices on May 31, district BJP president Padmanabha Kottari has said that couples getting married on the bandh day will be exempted, but only if they paste 'wedding car' stickers on their vehicles.
As the day, May 31, is said to be an auspicious one and several weddings and other important programmes have been fixed in many halls across the district, Kottari informed at a press meet here on Monday May 28 that party workers will ensure that vehicles bound for such functions are not stopped and that it will be a voluntary bandh.
Kottari said that people have already been suffering by the hike in the price of essential commodities and the sudden rise by Rs 7.50 per liter of petrol on May 23 was an unscientific move. "The government is giving the excuse of downfall in rupee value in international market for the hike in petrol price," he said.
He also said that a committee led by district BJP leaders has requested the CM to decrease the cess on petrol imposed by the state government. Within two days a decision may be announced, he said.
