Update: 12.30 pm

Mangalore, May 31: In a bizarre incident, an animal, said to be a wild buffalo, barged into the runway at Bajpe airport here on Thursday May 31.

However, flight operations that were suspended for sometime have resumed and are running normally now, as per the latest reports.

Sources said that the animal was spotted on Thursday morning near the runway, and when workers tried to chase and catch it, it ran amok and then shot through the valley below.

Forest squad and Pilikula officials tried to catch the buffalo and tranquilize it.

The buffalo entered the runway from the nearby forest area, it is said.

    Hi,

Regret that my comments may be coming in a bit late...

Well the immediate need is to have a good fence on either sides of the runway to ensure no such incidence occurs again.

Many a places due to slaughter houses in the neighbour hood birds & dogs are a menace who wait to eat on the left overs.

Here understanding it being a case the airport being in the midst of a jungle area the fencing should be taken on a war footing.

The above, as this incident might be a lesson in blessing for us.

Imagine the next time.... as the flight is landing an animal on the runway its flesh being sucked into the engines or incurring a flat Tyre might be disastrous.

All of this when a simple bird into the propellers / engines can create chaos.

    Kind Regards

    Aladdin Pais

Mr. Christopher D'Cunha, your comments were fantastic. With this kind of security you may very soon see lions, tigers and other wild animals invading the airport. This wild animal could prove fatal to the people in the airport and also can damage a plane which is about to land. This incident can be a cause of concern unless some precautionary steps are taken.

The buffalow jumped the fences try to catch the plane. His mis adventure was stopped by the timely interference by airport authorities. It was a chase and good excercise for some big tummy guys . Job well done , but question is why buffallow tried to catch plane ? , upon interogation and thorough investigation by cops its understood that buffalow was not able to find suitable mate , and was planning to say good bye to mangalore. Much of his amusement , he thought barging into airport , getting into immediate next flight is a good idea. So whatsz the big buzz!!?? , its a big sensation since it created havoc in airport , could hav been a disaster in waiting. But where is buffallow now?? , sent back to mangalore or been hired by someone as petrol prices r already high . Buffallow can be a suitable replacement for bullock , wot say ?

The runway is arranged for “Kambala Gadde” or what? (Buffalo Race track) It shows the security measure or security failure of Mangalore International Airport (which awarded ISO or some International certified recently) for their standard. There are some nice comedy comments including Mr.herbert Joseph. But this is shows how secure our Mangalore International Airport and their runway etc. even the buffalo can free to enter there.

There are security men everywhere in Bajpe Airport with guns in hand and check the documents meticulously while passengers enter the airport. On the other hand, the boundary wall of the airport is very low! Any fool can jump and raid or hijack the plane any moment. What is more important is enhancing the boundary wall rather than checking the entry points.

As regards wild bufallo, till the picture is seen, one can not say anything. If it is true, it is a shame on the airport management team and the region as a whole. People are laughing at us.
