Udupi, Jun 2: A 'namakarana' for frogs was held here on Saturday June 2 at 10.30 am, in the wake of delayed rains in the district.
The namakarana was organized by the district Nagarika Samiti, under the leadership of Nityanand in Kidiyoor Hotel premises.
The baby frogs were placed in a cradle for the namakarana. There were six frogs, brought from Kolalgiri. They were given the name of 'Maleraya'.
This is not the first time frogs are being used as a ritual to bring early rains. Frogs were married in 2008 and a 'seemanta' ceremony was held in 2009.
After the ceremony, the frogs were left in Nayarkere.
Sharath, Sundari, Bharathi, Ganeshraj Saralbettu, Rakesh and others were present.
