Mangalore: 'Berth' of a Different Kind - Woman Delivers Baby on Train

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Jun 6: In a one-of-its-kind incident, a woman gave birth to a baby on the Maharashtra-Chennai Okha express train when it reached Suratkal near here.

Lalita Dharasingh, a daily wager, developed labour pains in the train and delivered a baby boy on Tuesday June 5.

With the help of Raees Ahmed Janjam from Murdeshwar in Uttara Kannada district, Lalita and her baby were admitted to Lady Goschen hospital in the city.

Lalita, wife of Dharasingh from Maharashtra's Sripura in Dhoda district, was travelling with her husband and other workers to Chennai, where a contractor had hired them.

Lalita was heavily pregnant. On Tuesday, at around 3 pm when the train was nearing Mangalore she developed labour pains. Her lady companions mulled on taking her near the train toilet for the delivery, but Raees on hearing this came to her rescue. He made arrangements to shift her to a separate unoccupied berth, where she delivered the baby. He also took her to Wenlock, from where she was shifted to Lady Goschen.

The surprising part was that none of the women who were with her came to her help. Raees was bringing his wife for medical treatment to Mangalore. It was only he, his wife and Lalita's husband who eventually helped her.

Mr. Raees Ahmed is certainly to be called as Himmatwala (the courageous one) as mentioned by Mr. Muhammad Gouse. I know him personally his father is Abdul Rahim Ganjam (a retired teacher) residing at Trasi, Kundapur Taluk. I like his helping nature and attachment towards social work, God bless him & his family.

I am very happy to note that my son-in-law Raees Ahmed Ganjam has shown his courage on this occasion. Really it is a great job with so much risk but Almighty has helped the pregnant woman through some unknown family. Raees by nature is always very helpful for people irrespective of their religion, so my relatives generally treat him as “Himmatwala”. He is from Gangolli running business at Murdeshwar by the name “Bhatkal Stores” (on the way to temple) and also settled there.

Nice work Mr. Raees, these are real life heros, Mr. Nagesh Nayak for your kind information Indian govt, made change in accident law that anyone can help in Emergency. that are the old days police are troubling people who help accident victims. In this case people are too selfish, remember you will get what you do to others.

    hi, Francis Dsouza, Mangalore/Patna,

    YOU ARE 100% RIGHT.

WOMAN & CHILD ARE HEALTHY & ALIVE.

JUST THINK IN CASE OF A DEATH EITHER ONE OF THEM OR BOTH.

HARASSMENT STARTS BY POLICE & OTHER AUTHORITIES ON ATTENDEES AS WELL AS ON CO PASSENGER.

OUR INDIAN LAWS ARE DESIGNED IN SUCH A WAY THAT ONE HAS TO PRESENT IN COURT TILL HE/SHE GOES TO GRAVE.

MOST OF THE VERDICTS IN INDIA ARE COMING OUT AFTER 15 TO 25 YEARS.

EX: BHOPAL GAS TRAGEDY CASE, SIKH MASSACRE IN 1984 ETC.. ARE STILL LIVE IN COURTS.

LAST WEEK A GENTLEMAN FELL FROM HIS RIDING BIKE & BLEEDING . HE WAS DEMANDING WATER FROM NEARBY GOERS . NOBODY CAME TO HIS RESUE.

AFTER ONE HOUR POLICE CAME & TOOK HIM TO HOSPITAL.

PEOPLE ARE FEARING THE CONSEQUNCES OF POLICE ENQUIRY, HARASSMENT, COURT CASES IF DEATH OCCURS EVEN AFTER HELPING IN ACCIDENT ETC....

Not helping others is a usual characteristic of MAJORITY of the ladies.. They are just bothered about their immediate family. Always, its the males who are concerned and helpful towards others others who are in need, especially in these cases. One more classic example is, whenever a elderly women or a pregnant lady boards a crowded bus, you will always find only men vacate their seats immediately and rarely you will find someone from "4 seatugalu Mahileyarige meesalu", vacating their seats.
