Mangalore, Jun 6: The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) officials have been raiding illegal businesses and unhygienic hotels across the city for the past several days. Their zeal has been appreciated by all and sundry, but on Wednesday June 6, it seemed like they went a bit overboard with their mission.

Acting on a tip-off, the MCC health officials intercepted an auto rickshaw in which a meat stall owner was allegedly transporting beef 'illegally' at Kankanady market.

The officials checked the meat thoroughly for the MCC seal, which would determine whether the beef was from MCC slaughter house or some other source.

The officials found the MCC seal, yet, to be doubly sure that the seal was not fake, the workers at the MCC slaughter house were summoned to the spot. The workers confirmed that the meat was from the slaughter house, and that the auto rickshaw had stopped there early in the morning to load the beef.

Also, Dr Ashok Kumar, a veterinary, was called to spot to inspect the meat.

Finding the beef in good condition and legal, the officials returned the beef to the man, but seized the auto rickshaw.

A case was registered in Kadri police station.

Of late, the MCC officials have been keeping an eye on illegal businesses in the city. In a series of raids, the officials swooped down on pani puri stalls, malls, shops, slaughter houses, street vendors and hotels across the city to ensure the legality of the businesses and their hygenic conditions. It is said prevention is always better than cure, and perhaps for that reason, MCC officials may be appreciated despite faltering!

    Naufal,

You have quoted very eye-opening opinion. I would add if a cow is one's mother and its milk is used to commercial purposes, should it not be practiced with his own mother too ? Why the calf is cheated but human is benefiting in both ways ? A very solid point isn't it ?

If carrying the beef in a rickshaw is not legal, it should not have been allowed to load at the loading point. This would have saved the trouble to the auto rickshaw driver.

When I was 8 years old 1 kg beef was costing 45 rupees..Now its 140 rupees/kg... Do you know the reason.. Its simple.. Everyone wants beef nowadays..
Who told that only Muslims consume beef as their food. It is consumed by all the religions.. If anyone has doubt, plz visit Mallikatta market at around 7am...You can have a live demo..

Nobody has the legal rights to ban beef.. Even doctors recommend it.. Those who oppose beef meat, kindly dont consume chicken, mutton or egg.. Bcoz it is also considered as MAHA PAPA..You can eat SOPPU THARAKAARI, SUVARNA GEDDE, HOO KOS, NAVIL KOS, BASALE KAJIPU,
MOOLANGI,BATAANI KADLE, KANCHAALA etc etc.. You dont have legal rights to protest against certain commodities and their lifestyles..

    I like beef & I love beef...

Vishaya dhadha panda.. Itthe beef bodchi panpuni, saiberna madhime itthanda banjara beef vanas malth barpuni.. Yan yenna kannare thoothe..Bokka encha 45 rupayi itthina beef gu 140 rupayi aapuni...??

    Dear readers,
Why the MCC doesn't use cold storage vans to deliver the slaughtered meat?
How long this meat is valid for consumption? Is there any expiry dates? Why are they not using legal means for transporting consumable?
MCC please look at this issues.Raids doesn't yield much result for law breakers. But preventing it may be more wise.

Where was your law till now ? The raid wasn't about transporting anyway ? It was to ensure that the product is legally processed when ensured the officials should have left. Why take the auto driver to the police station ?

Kindly work towards overall development of the city and dont just run after slaughter houses.

Beef is the most consumed meat in the world. Beef is widely consumed by today's youth in major Indian Cities ,irrespective of religion ,and it is no more considered a Taboo. Beef and Pork meat should be made available in all Indian Supermarkets to maintain the Quality Standards.

Amidst all this drama, I wonder why there is a beef meat stall in the central market ? Does it mean that the actual problem is the transportation of the meat from the slaughter house to the market and NOT THE CONSUMPTION OF MEAT. Please do not deprive us the taste of Beef...
