Mangalore, Jun 6: City Corporation officials continued their raids in and around the city on Wednesday June 6 in a bid to curb malpractices and unauthorized businesses.

The officials sealed as many as six shops in Empire Mall for running business without license. A notice was given to the food court to maintain cleanliness henceforth.

The officials then raided Prestige Hotel owned by actor Sunil Shetty in Balmatta. The officials warned the management to keep the kitchen clean and use proper ventilation.

The raid was carried out under the direction of MCC commissioner Dr Harish. Other officials included environmental engineer Manjunath R Shetty and health inspectors Yashwanth, Bharath Kumar, Santhosh, Sushanth, Nirmala, Karunakar, Basavaraj, Baba Mallanna and Poovappa.

Though the officials have been doing their duty in conducting raids across the city over the past several days, it is learnt that the traders escaped from paying penalty in most of the cases that were reported earlier.

Sources said that earlier though officials raided an unauthorized slaughter house in Kudroli and seized as many as 26 sheep along with skins and sealed the place, the slaughter house functioned normally soon and all the sheep were brought back for a paltry fine of Rs 2,000.

It is said that though the officials are doing their work dutifully, due to pressure from some quarters, appropriate action is not being taken on wrongdoers.

It is proved that these health inspectors were not doing their job in the past. Now all of a sudden they were woken up. Anyway hope these kind of raids go on and all businesses will be legal and all food courts will be clean.

Ramesh Pandith, your pictures were fantastic. You and your team must be busier than ever due to the raids carried out in the city by MCC. The Mayor and her team are doing a good job as they will clean up the city with corrupt dirty businessmen who are looting the public.

    anamika, mangalore,

While agreeing with you that officials should be given a free hand to enforce rules....I have to remind you elected representitives (mayor included) have to keep in mind winning next elections...that tie their hands and make them behave as they behaved ...

Main reason for our corrupt system is our Corrupt and flawed elections system...Without curing this ,,, nothing will change.

    In India, everything chaltha hai!

Corrupt people like MLA Sampangi happily coming out of jail, even after not making even a 'No.2' in dirty jail toilet. I know how bad jail toilets are because i have been wrongly put there, and 'I AM INNOCENT' and so is JaganMohan Reddy.

MCC officials work hard, but due to corrupt politicians, mayor & corporators, they pressurize & see that no action is taken. Recently in a meeting with the MCC officials, mayor slammed the officials in front of the Hotel association members, for raiding the hotels without prior notice to the hotel owners. How can the raid be done with a notice??? When will India improve if our own corrupt politicians blame officials for doing their work....Mayor madam, u stop supporting your community people & even others for doing illegal business. Support the MCC team, encourage them.

MCC should come up with Annexed Rules & Regulations with detailed penalty clause for the offences of this nature. If any establishment repeats the same offence more than twice, the license of that establishment should be cancelled. Otherwise this whole operation of first raiding and later allowing them to continue is an eye-wash.
