Bangalore: An MBA Graduate who Chose Pickpocketing as Profession

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Jun 7: G V Smitha, a native of Tamil Nadu is a 24-year-old ordinary yet pretty girl, settled in Bangalore for more than a decade now. She has an MBA degree in marketing from a well-known institution in Bangalore. Her dream was to support her mother and brother by getting a job with some multinational company.

But then her path meandered and so did her dreams. She became a pickpocket by profession, and is now a guest of the Bangalore police!

Leading posh lives and spending thousands of rupees every day is common among the young generation. Provided parents can afford it, children roam around in sleek cars, wear branded clothes and get enough pocket money to spend and waste. But having lost her father at a young age, Smitha could not afford any of the luxuries, and her mother had to work as a maid in bunglows to support her education and that of her brother.

But then Smitha was attracted to and impressed by her spendthrift friends who had pocketful of money. "One day I found a purse with some Rs 3,000 on the street, and that inspired me to take up pickpocketing," confessed Smitha before the Bangalore police when she was caught.

She was very sharp and quick in switching wallets from others' pockets to hers. She would climb the bus while going to college, and without anybody's knowledge flick wallets and purses from men's trousers or ladies' bags, and then get down at the next stop. She would then climb another bus and do the same thing. In a day she would pick at least three pockets.

She has been in this pickpocket 'business' for the last couple of years, but was never caught until now!

Armed with other people's hard-earned money, she imitated the lifestyle of rich students, and became friendly with four or five boys, spending lavishly with them. Lunch or dinner at five star hotels, movies at multiplexes every week, sponsoring petrol for friends' bikes, staying at luxury hotels, and even lending money to her brother and mother - this is how she led her life, and yet no one doubted her.

On Wednesday June 6, a person who lost his wallet lodged a complaint with the police, and expressed his doubts on Smitha, because he had seen her in the bus a few times. Acting on his suspicion, police took her for interrogation, and found that she was indeed the culprit. Bangalore's Banasawadi police station head constable played a prime role in cracking the case.

Police recovered cash and gold worth Rs 8 lac from Smitha.

Call it fate or lust for luxury, a qualified MBA graduate who was supposed to be managing a company ended up mismanaging her own life!

    Dear readers,
The lavish and exorbiant lifestyle is one of the key reason for such acts. These days everybody want's to become rich in short time.If you look at the school going kids with high end mobile talking and chatting like a business persons, without any parental control.
This poor lady should have looked into the past of her own mother working as a maid to build her carrier should have refrain it.If should have put little more effort and patience will pay the way for her. After all everybody is not lucky in this world.

It must be a sick society which gloats on the misdemeanor of a girl because of her gender. There are so many pickpockets who are caught. But society sanctions men to be legitimate pickpockets however educated they are as long as they go Scot free. Do they get this much attention when they are caught? Such news would be rediculed.
Is there a life for this girl after this?
"if there is one among you who has not sinned be the one to throw the first stone at her". Might not be picking someones pocket alone.....

The issues that deserve attention and thinking go unnoticed while a news item, read it as it is. News of girls topping high school or graduation or post graduation or CET or any competitive exam. Go congratulate them. tell them they are doing well. focus on the good.

Some of the comments are against "SMITHA" some are in favor but in reality she did in a wrong way but no need to be punished. Now the Police personal can act like a counselling team/ any religious people can do the same. She may change her life style also she may repent what she did. I had experience, I was working for 5 Star Hotel and there lot of beautiful educated female comes for the Sex trade, but the security in-charge catch them and counselling them many of them, repented of their mistake and changed their life. So better to give a chance to 'SMITHA' hope that she may change her life mode of earnings. But better to check the whole group involved and to be light punishment. There is no doubt that our Court will pardon her in her first crime, like this. Hope for the best and there is no doubt in change of SMITHA 's life style, in future. Hope for the best.

'Pick-pocketing' itself is one of disease. Some people cultivate as an hobby - without knowing. One of Princess having same sickness where ever she goes on shopping picking up item one or other. For which Kingdom itself ordered from where she belonged strict warning her bodyguard/associates to pay money before leaving shop.

Royal Families never pay/carry any money by cash or cheque - there 'signature' itself having weightage just in piece of paper - can deposit any of banks around the world and obtain money.

Let give chance for 'smitha' to change.

Philip wrote "Under the influence of money, moral evaluation is subordinated to economic valuation". Christian theology says "Money has no intrinsic value, rather it is a promiseof value, a crystallization of future hopes".

The evil lust for the control of money has permeated from the head to all the dysfunctional organs within society where greed governs the society. Money is the barometer of a society’s virtue.

When one takes up evil as the means of survival, do not expect them to remain good. MBA, CA, BA, BE, Bcom or MBBS degree does not build the character totally. When money ceases to be the tool by which he or she deals with the ther, then he or she becomes tool of blood, whips and gun. Pick-pocketing seems to be just a beginning in her profile.

She has fallen now but will rise up someday, and shine all over again with the help of prayers from deceased father and some sensible scoldings from mother who struggled so hard to provide for her.
Many of us are "pickpockets" in some way: when we use office stationery for personal use, use the work time to do our personal work and take undue advantage of other people's kindness.

Please do not overreact without thinking. We do not know what lies ahead for our families and friends. Even the best can disappoint you. Remember Jesus said "those who did not commit any sin let be the first one to throw stone at the sinful woman".

I hope this young lady follows her own Mom's path than those of her so called "friends".. Collectively as a society we can do much better by being less judgemental and more empathetic. Let us pray for her rather than ridicule her..

"Pickpocketing is an Art" quote from one of the police officers when he was interviewd about pickpocket,I didn't believe it till my purse was flicked inside the crowded bus which was kept in the secret pocket of my pant(Bangalore(1990).My dad sent Rs.3000/-for my Computer course. Before stepping into the Computer class,I lost purse and my dream was robbed.Just imagine..Rs.3000/-in 1990..I didn't join again.
Usually, these pickpocketers work as a group.Their leader distribute the area to boys, and after flicking the purse, they have to hand over the purse to leader who will take his major share.Suppose,if pickpocketer gets caught, then leader takes full responsibility. He meets Lawyer and makes all arrangements to release boys.Boys need not worry about money.Everything Boss or leader bears. This is a big, very big mafia..But here,Smita is a independent candidate..So,let us see who will bail her out..

It is very difficult to prove that she has pick pocketed as she was not caught red handed. Even if someone is caught red handed, it requires witnesses to proceed with the case. So this case is as good as closed. However, I sincerely hope she will mend her ways and become a law abiding citizen.

FAST AND EASY MONEY IS THE RULE OF THE DAY.EVEN IN THE EARNINGS OR BUSINESS THERE IS NO ETHICS.POCKETING MORE HAS BECOME THE AIM OF LIFE FOR MANY.WE PREACH A LOT BUT DON'T PRACTICE.VALUES ARE LOOSING ITS "VALUE"AMONG MANY.EVERYONE IS TRYING TO FIND A WAY FOR FASTER EARNINGS....AND EVERYONE IS A THIEF ONLY WHEN HE IS CAUGHT....WHETHER UNDER THIS LOGIC THE PRESENT GENERATION MOVES?????

If ministers pickpocket our public money its no a big issue. This time no judge will give her bail, she is just a pickpocketer. Not a politician.India needs a law where all robbers should get same judgement.

We are fully familiar with so many instances where young men and women with the best of Education and best of family backgrounds ending up in jails in America due to so many addictions. Destiny of a person can go thru so many pathways of misfortunes and tragedies where the Educational qualities strangely become redundant. We have to sympathise with those individuals and whisper a prayer for their reconciliations in life. That is step "Numero Uno"

Addictions and vices are contageous and harmful, special in India where gossip spreads so rapidly and randomly that news spread so quckly around, and therefore each and every situation need be carefully reviewed in order to seek discreet solutions to the problems.

The society on the whole has an important role to play whereby we have to help the unfortunate individuals discreetely with a selfless attitude thru various ways and means without divulging the situation, but by isolating the situations and initiating various mentoring processes.

The lady with an MBA degree can be rescued from her misfortunes of the past but there need to be a group effort of the family and the community. Each and everyone of us can play a "good samaritan" role but each incident is delicate and fragile, and the spirit of "Empathy" is the key that each of us have to recognize thru a slow and steady approach . This is what called a short cut in life...May be she watched the movie of Shahid Kapoor Kaminey...Even she has the MBA from one of the best institute she never tried to utilize instead of she opted a short cut to earn fast and easy way and that what lands to her to jail. Her mother by working as a housemaid has given the best education even she was not desreved for that..Present generation kids are spoiled by their own parents who never questions but pay more than what they asks...Hope after the punishment she may opt the correct path...

What a cunning knack of pickpocketing, thanks to the police they have recovered gold and cash. Bangalore girls are like this only, whoever settles with them has to spoil their lives. She has played on somebody's life and now she has no answer for her own life, in life not to cheat others, you will get it one or the other day, you can cheat people, but not to God and your own consciousness.

She will never ever come up due to this stupid act.
