Bantwal, Jun 12: No one knows why the time has not come to broaden the city roads at Vittal. The assurances given in the past by all deputy commissioners who had taken charge of Dakshina Kannada has not been realized so far.

Despite the town council' planning to broaden the roads in Vittal, the works have not been carried out in widening the heavily congested intersection. The traffic snarls are causing hardship to motorists, pedestrians, and shopkeepers.

The previous deputy commissioner (DC) Ponnuraj offered the assurance of beginning work within 15 days during his two visits. Nonetheless, a few shopkeepers voluntarily vacated their shops in order to pave the way for beginning work at the earliest, butthe district administration has not taken any concrete steps in this regard.

The new DC Dr Chennappa Gowda, during his recent visit, addressing the media, said that three influential shopkeepers are adamant about not vacating their shops that had to be demolished for broadening of road works. Meanwhile, the district administration will convene a meeting with people' representatives, department officials, and shopkeepers, as soon as the code of conduct on legislative council polls gets over on Thursday June 14.

However, the people still find it hard to believe Dr Chennappa as all DCs were generous in their assurances in the past. Only time will tell whether the plans are implemented or not!

In Karnataka,I have seen that in many places shops r touching the roads.Civic Agencies should demolish such shops after giving them reasonable compensation.Look at the situation in Kateel in Mangalore.Just near the bus stop many shops r creating traffic chaos as the shops r very close to the roads & it is practically impossible to move two cars at a time to pass through.I kindly request our MP.Naleen Kumar Kateel to take necessary action to demolish these shops as it has become impossible to drive on this road which is to be widen without any delay.

It is a high time Vittal bus stand road widened as soon as possible.
since 1970 I have heard that this work will be carried out.As I see what Rakshak has mentioned some shop keepers are not happy and gone to court. They don't want to develop their city and enjoy the fruits later.People should change and agree for development. I cant imagine driving in Vittla.Take a bold step locals and keep pestering the authorities.Remember crying baby gets the MILK

What Karnataka needs is an educated CM like Mr. Manohar Parrikar who does not waste his time on useless issues like Cow Slaughter Bill or Rama Sene.
