Mangalore, Jun 14: Continuing their crack down on unauthorized businesses across the city, the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) officials in an early operation on Thursday June 14 raided and sealed an illegal slaughter house in Bunder here.

The officials led by health inspector Bharat Kumar raided the slaughter house run by Naeem, son of Noor Mohammed, whose abattoir was raided and sealed by the MCC officials on June 3.

At around 4.30 am, the MCC officials went to Noor's slaughter house (which had allegedly begun functioning after paying a fine of Rs 2,000), but found it closed. They then proceeded to Naeem's abattoir at Ansar Road in Bunder, and found sheep being slaughtered there.

The MCC officials found six sheep already slaughtered, and skins of three sheep. Also, 81 sheep, all alive and well, were stocked at the slaughter house. The slaughter house was sealed for running illegally.

The officials seized the meat and later buried it at the dumping yard in Pachanady. The 81 sheep they seized will be put on auction the same day, as per the orders of MCC commissioner.

It is said that there was pressure on the officials from higher authorities to release the seized sheep to the abattoir, as in the previous case of Noor Mohammed where he got back all the sheep for a paltry 'fine' of Rs 2000. However, this time, the officials refused to comply and will go ahead with the auction.

The seized livestock is said to be worth Rs 5 lac.

MCC officials Yashwant, Santosh, Manjunath Shetty, Raghunath and Madhu S were part of the raid operation.

Yes, shut down illegal slaughter houses. Also, MCC ought to provide modern well designed & hygenically maintained slaughter houses to cope with demand. Can MCC also inspect ALL fish ,meat, poultry markets in Mangalore & ensure these are clean etc. Most are in a really disgraceful state.Take a look at our public/govt run hospitals. We don't need to look at facilities abroad. No need to visit China, Canada etc Our attitude needs much improvement.District Health Officials must function efficiently

I have a goat farm at Irvathoor Padau - Winland Farms.
We have 350 goats at present. All goats are Australian breed called as African Boers and Malabari.
The meat of goats and sheep's is different. The sheep meat costs half of goat meat.
However, from Rajasthan, they get sick/old and unwanted sheep's for slaughter and slaughter them in unhygienic conditions.
A goat should be 12-15 months old when slaughtered. It has to be De-wormed 15 days before slaughter with Albandazole & Mebendazole. This is to make sure that the customer does not get tape/hook and other worms some of which thrive more than the boiling temperature of meat.
The worst is the brain worm. It is a silent killer.
    So be careful folks.
I am in this business for the last 15 years and I know what I am talking about.
From my farm, we supply quality goat meat to 5 star hotels in Mangalore and Khambatta Aviation.
If anyone wants to know more about goat breeding, please contact me.
I will be glad to oblige.
In fact, you can make a search on U-tube and search for goat breeding and you will get the lovely documentary done by Daiji with lovely Latha Shenoy.

For comparison MCC should show here the Govt. run slaughter houses. Then only we can compare the Hygienic way or unhygienic way both slaughter houses are run.
I very much doubt one is better than the other -

    @ Ramesh, mangalore.

TELL YOUR MCC TO BANDH ALL SLAUGHTER HOUSE PERMANENTLY. THEN ONLY WE CAN TRUST THIS MCC.

OTHERWISE IT WILL BE REFERRED AS MONEY CLAIMING CENTRE. ITS HAPPENING LIKE THAT ONLY.

It is a good step to keep Mangalore clean. I hope the same officer also do the same with the other live stock market of chicken and fish. This will increase awareness among people for a clean Mangalore. But since the raids are at 4 am I doubt some foul place by the ruling BJP.There are many restaurants in mangalore with very bad kitchen conditions.

These people are less educated. Give them proper guidelines regarding running slaughter houses rather than spoiling their hard work.

A very good move by MCC to crack the illegal business activites.

Educating the people about the guidelines will give better results or else these raids will give much better results.

However corrupt politicians will definitely use their power on MCC to stop the crack down...

First these corrupt politicains irrespective of their party should be sent to Jail permanently to save the country

Officers’ deed is applauded. But do it rite way! form team among you assign them particular problematic segment of society. Train individual team the approach to the problem, set policies. Guide them to educate wrong doers at first, show them where they have gone wrong, if needed warn!. Publish in media, call for meetings among the segments (eg: butchery owners) show these are the guide lines u have set ask them to correct them self. “Barging to the problem is not the solution u will be just on looked no one will lend hand” some were down the line even wrong doers are connected to society and common man.

Slaughter houses should follow hygienic and environmental health guidelines specified by MCC health department.Being said that I think restaurants or food production houses in Mangalore following minimum compliance? I don't think so.These kind of raids must not be PARNAGA ORA...PIRNAGA ORA....It should be routine.
