Update: 9 pm

Putture, Jun 14: Puttur police suspect that Venkataramana, a resident of Bettampady here, may have murdered his wife and three children on Tuesday June 12, based on the condition of the bodies and circumstantial evidence.

The bodies were discovered by the electricity bill collector, who had come to the house on Thursday June 14 morning. When nobody responded to his knocks, he pushed the door and found it open. Inside he found the bodies of Sandhya, Vedhya, Harigovind and Vinuta lying in a pool of blood.

Venkataramana who is suspected to have committed the crime, is absconding. Unconfirmed reports suggested that he too may have ended his life.

Venkataramana was also said to be engaged in black magic, and many people used to visit his house for consultation.

A few days ago, a case of theft was reported from Venkataramana's house, wherein it was alleged that the money saved for building a new house was stolen. The police now suspect that it was a false complaint, and that Venkataramana himself may have taken away the money.

Initial Report

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur

Puttur, Jun 14: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly murdered his wife and three children at his home in Bettampady here on Thursday June 14.

The incident occured at around 2.30 pm.

Venkataramana is said to have killed his wife Sandhya, daughters Vedhya (14) and Vinuta (12) and son Harigovind (15). All three were hacked to death with a weapon, it is said.

Soon after committing the heinous crime, he fled the place and is yet to be traced.

Senior police officials from Mangalore have rushed to the spot. They have found a bucket of bloody water and syringes.

It is said that a few days ago a theft was reported from Venkataramana's house. Police now suspect that he himself might have committed the theft and lodged a false complaint. However, his motives are not yet known.

Puttur police are at the spot and are investigating.

More details awaited.

    Dear Ranjith Challa,
I understand your pain. I know how it feels when you've lost four of your relatives. I have played with all of those cousins in my childhood. Because I have lost FIVE of them, including my uncle (no sign of him so far).

But it isn't really fair to say the children's father did it.

    Dear Dr S Kamath,
You're right. People should help the police by giving true details. But the nearest neighbour there has some land disputes (although not too serious, certainly not a silly one) with them. Moreover, what's really going on is that, the news papers want higher circulation and TV channels want higher TRP counts. So they want to publish and broadcast 'sensational' news.

    Dear Jaimini,
My mother (one of the elder sisters of the suspected) still believes that he might have either been kidnapped, or escaped the real criminals. An aunt, one of his younger sisters, called my mother and cried for news papers have written he was doing witchcrafts and people look at her in a different way now.

The police have claimed to have cracked the robbery case, lodged a week before murders, in such a short time. How can it be possible to crack such events occurred in such remote areas in such a short period of time? Would children lie to the police? Can police believe the BSNL landline was not out-of-order condition? (It was an important point police made)

The following argument of mine may sound off-topic. But it is VERY important.
If BSNL CAN track whether a phone line is working or not, then there are thousands of phones across every state that don't work. It is duty of BSNL, as a service provider, to keep them all correct. If they have facilities to track the status of connections, why don't they step forward to eliminate the faults? I wonder if there is anyone who haven't heard their friends/relatives blaming BSNL saying "... No matter how many times we complain, the phone doesn't work. So I stopped complaining them." So, BSNL doesn't have such a facility to track the line, unless a complaint was lodged by the consumer and/or call logs.

But in this case, BSNL NEVER said there were any calls logged. But they just said they didn't receive any complaint of fault. How can it be a main basis of their conclusion that the complaint was false?

It seems to me that his enemies might have killed Venkatramana's family members and kidnapped him so that blame would automatically go to him. I don't see any good points to prove him accused.
1.He could have run away without killing his wife and children.
2.Normally we can see Husband killing wife and children and committing suicide..Here NO SUICIDE...Police should crack this case very carefully.

Wait... Don't be so judgemental by this incomplete piece of news. Read the facts below that you have not been provided with.

    1. The bodies were found scattered in the house. If HE killed them, he would have tried to hide the bodies. Nobody would have known for at least some time.

    2. He wasn't engaged in any black magic. He was, in fact, against witchcrafts. He was an astrologer.

    3. He needs to travel at least 10 kilo meters ((2km by walk 3km by any mean) x 2) to get syringes after he observed the contradictory opinion of his family. It doesn't match the timings of the events (he couldn't get a syringe in time).

    4. He wasn't mentally ill. He didn't know when to be serious and when not to be. And he was ALWAYS arguing to keep his opinions up. So people think he was mentally ill.

    5. One opinion of a friend of mine - one doesn't need to murder and abscond, when he can just run away leaving the family there alone if believed they would say the robbery complaint was false (since she was in a Govt. job, they could have survived without him).

    6. He was financially OK, although not rich. But still, he borrowed money from MANY people. And, as far as I know, he didn't return money to any of those.

So, as far as I believe, 6th point above is the reason for the robbery occurred at the house on 3rd of this month, and the fact, that he lodged a complaint about it, is the reason for the murders.

Trust me, I'm not posting it because I'm his nephew, but I'm posting it because I know what people found in the house, I know what he has been doing since last 22 years, I have analysed what he could have got in the given timings, how he behaved with others, his financial status. And I have analysed what a killer would have done in such remote places when he was alone.

I don't expect more 'Agree's, but I just wanted to say what I know (from the ones who visited the place), what I have analysed, and what are my opinions after discussing with friends.
