Mangalore, Jun 15: ‘Hombelaku’, a biography in Kannada on Msgr Raymond Mascarenhas, the founder of Bethany congregation, by Prof Stephen Quadras, was released by Sr Wilberta, the president of Bethany Educational Society (BES) at Bethany Hall, Bendore here on June 15.

Addressing the gathering of teachers, Sr Wilberta congratulated Prof Stephen Quadras for highlighting the endeavours of the luminary. She exhorted the teachers to imbibe the ideals of the great visionary Msgr Mascarenhas in building a new society and exemplify the vision of the founder.

She further said that teachers come across innumerable crisis and conflicts in the class, therefore their response plays a significant role in the life of the children. She motivated the teachers to identify the lost, least and last children and to empower them.

Speaking on the newly-released book, she said the book sheds light on the contribution of Msgr Mascarenhas in the filed of education, to the advancement of Konkani literature and his Gandhian vision of self-reliance of the poor through self employment, as well as his true Christian spirit of reaching out to all categories of people in service.

Provincial superior Sr Mariette felicitated the author. Sr Rose Celine, the secretary of the society, introduced the dignitaries and welcomed the gathering. Sr Assumpta, member of the council of management introduced the author of the book.

Stephen Quadras profusely appreciated the Bethany sisters and Bethany educational society for the vital contribution they make towards the transformation of the society.

Sr Wilberta who is the president of Bethany Educational Society released a biography in Kannada on Msgr Raymond Mascarenhas, the founder of Bethany congregation.

The biography was written by Prof Stephen Quadras.

Msgr Raymond Mascarenhas had wonderful ideals and he wished to build up a new society.

His contributions for the society are immense. He did a lot in the field of education, for Konkani literature and he admired the Father of the Nation Gandhi and he had his Gandhian vision of self-reliance of the poor through self employment.

Msgr Raymond Mascarenhas is a true saint and the sisters of the Bethany congregation try to apply and to fulfil his visions in India and in other parts of the world.

I regret only that his biography is written in Kannada. It would be a deep spiritual experience to read his biography in English.
But I do not know if a book about Msgr Raymond Mascarenhas is available in English.

Should one of the sisters of the Bethany congregation or any avid reader of Daijiworld know a book in English please do not hesitate to send me a mail.

    Best regards

True saint indeed !. Has a special coonection to Udyavara . He is the one who built church from rubble. Its was not easy those days , no donations , fat income , economy was down. Still he made every anna count from poor and poorest of poor and raised it. Ironically peaple now talk of demolishing it to make place for new one. It feels as if buldozing emotions of peaple associated with it.
