Mangalore, Jun 17: A three-day exhibition of paintings by Suraj S Walke was inaugurated at Orchid Art Gallery by Dr Yusuf Kumble of Indiana Hospital and mentor N S Pattar, head of the department of painting, Mahalasa School of Art on Saturday June 16.

Speaking on the occasion, Pattar said, “The paintings titled ‘Mindscape’ include a lot of originality and creativity unlike nature art. Such paintings present a lot of depth and innovation. In the beginning, Suraj could not perceive the philosophy of arts. However, with experience, the paintings here have beautifully expressed the ideas of an innocent mind.”

He lauded William Pais, director, Orchid Art Gallery, for providing a platform for the young and budding artists to display their contemporary and experimental paintings.

Dr Kumble also spoke and wish Walke good luck for his future endeavours.

Walke, born in Mangalore, Karnataka, completed his BVA degree in painting from Mahalasa College of Visual Art, Mangalore. He has participated in 15 group shows. He was one among the 96 artists selected from 3,365 at the Lalit Kala Academy National Exhibition held in 2010.  Besides, he has also won Camlin Art Foundation Awards, PTL Mangalore, and MS Academy Ujjain, awards. ‘Mindscapes’ is his first solo exhibition. He lives and works in Mangalore.

Walke, in his creative process of painting, displays forms that are not preplanned but are developed through a process of playing with transparent colours, delicate textures, and simple reliefs. The thin, finely graded washes, sensitive tonal values, metaphysical visuals, patterns and divisions of picturesque ‘spaces’ are interdependent with his aesthetic sense.

The exhibition will continue till Saturday June 23.
