Mangalore, Jun 18: The retaining wall of an under-construction vented dam at Maravoor here collapsed on Monday June 18, causing flash floods and heavy damage.

The house belonging to Oswald in the area was inundated, completely shutting down access to the house. Oswald and his family were evacuated and shifted to another place.

Around 50 coconut trees were damaged, many of them submerging in the water.

At least three other houses in the area are in danger of collapsing.

The incident occured at around 4.30 am, after a heavy downpour all through the night. It is said that the gate of the vented dam was chocked with wooden logs, leading to the collapse of the wall.

The damage extends to over an acre, including fields in the area.

The tahsildar visited the spot and assured that appropriate measures will be taken to bring relief. Dam project contractor Sudhakar Shetty has promised to help in rebuilding Oswald's house and the compound wall.

it happened because of the human error and irresponsible work by the contractor. Note: that After issuing stay order from the court the work was continued, court order has been neglected. (because damaged 2.5 acre property belongs to my family) it should me condemned, contractor need to be jailed.

Promote the Engineers and all staff who works for this project. They are so stupid and need to be jailed.

Some of our guys are blaming British rule and Western Technology but surely what they constructed and the technology what they use is great.
