Mangalore, Jun 18: Continuing the crackdown on illegal businesses in the city, the officials of Mangalore City Corporation on Monday June 18 raided several shops in City Centre mall and in Singapore City.

The health officials examined the documents of the shops and also the hygiene standards in some of the fast food counters in the mall.

By the end of the raid, as many as 15 shops and eateries were sealed for not possessing valid trade licence. Among them were Fish Spa, Paris Garden, Pensive, M G Cafe and several jewellery stores and mobile phone outlets.

The shop owners were asked to apply for licences to resume their trades.

KFC in City Centre was also checked for hygiene. Some of the shops downed their shutters as soon as they saw the officials enter the mall.

The MCC team consisted of six officials, who raided the shops simultaneously in groups of two.

MCC officials Madhu, Bharat, Sushant, and others were part of the raid operation.

THIS IS TO MCC OFFICIALS, BEFORE YOU RAID U NEED TO GIVE PRIOR CLASS FOR THE FOOD HANDLER AND ALSO 6 MONTH MEDICAL CHECK UP. BEFORE ENTERING U NEED TO WEAR PROPER PPE (PERSONEL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT) IF U DOESN'T WEAR PROPER PPE UR NOT ABLE TO RAID. LOOK AT THAT FOOD HANDLER HE HAS BAND IN HIS HAND WHICH IS NOT ALLOWED AND ITS A PHYSICAL HAZARD. THERE U CAN SEE THE FIRE FLOWING OUT BUT INSTEAD OF CLOSING IT AT THE SAME TIME HE IS SMILING LOOKING AT IT. THERE IS NO SAFETY ANYWHERE. THE WALLS ARE SO DIRTY AND THE LADY WHOSE IS MAKING CHAPATHI ISWEARING BANGLES AND OTHER JEWELLRY WHILE COOKING. AND THIS IS PURELY A PHYSICAL HAZARD.

Talking about food safety standards and food hygiene in Mangalore is terrible! Just an axample, the milk and youghurt sachets of an established brand are delivered by refrigerated vans to small roadside kiosks around Mangalore in blue palstic bins are lying on the roadside for severals hours under hot sun and rain before being taken into cool boxes for sale to customers. Then where is the temperature control of the perishable dairy products left open on the ground for several hours?

Good job. But no need to shut down shops who have not renewed their trade licence. You can do it from the office records also by sending notices. Only if they do not respond to notices then you seal the shop. Let them reopen after renewing the licence by paying hefty fines.

There are so many restaurants in manglaore below the standard of KFC! Please check them for hygiene standards. The MCC health officials are responsible to check and maintain hygiene standards of the restaurants, eateries, fast food joints through out the year and not just once under media coverage.

This is all fake just to show the people that corporation is doing their work.Otherwise without any prior notice how can they raid shops blindly. The business in the shops are not illegal but the procedure which had to be followed to set up those shops have not fulfilled.Even the mall authority should have taken initiative to see whether the shops in the mall perfectly bide with the conditions or not.Simply throwing allegations at people does not mean that the corporation is doing its work.

It is a right move if it is going as per law and without interference of any politics. give importance to the activity, it is legal or illegal, according to their activity check all parameters not once according to a time bound schedule if hotels or food related activity's please find the hygiene and sanitation quantity/quality price then your action is effective then you are become a model for other departments also.

These are not rave parties, or some illegal activities, necessiating the MCC officials to raid the premises to catch the culprits.

From the above reports it appears, they are all legitimate businesses, only not having proper documents.

Insted of making it appear they were comming to catch the thieves, they should have given notices to the shops, to produce the documents by such and such dates. This would allow the shop keepers as well as the MCC officials to make their deals, acceptable to both in cordial manner

Closing of the shops/sealing them without due notification was unwarranted and shows the ungentlemanly/uneducative and low mentallity of the officials involved in the unauthorised raids.

Officails in Saudi arabia who come to inspect the shops, treat the workers with respect, and give notices to produce the necessary doucments should they find anything missing, and not close the shops, seal them and instill fear in the minds of the staff working in the shops.

Officers how much prepared are you!? Now since you go with media you can behave as if you are the best, got power, you got public support...etc etc…
I being a layman man let me analyze in my point of view. I see your act as a gimmick for fast publicity and step ahead for your promotion.
The above sentence I know many would not agree, even I know I may not be correct by saying so. “I say so because you have not built any trust (confidence) in you so far!!!”
We all know you have taken this step for our good. Give us some hint what is MCC, how does it work. Officers use media, advertize about you show you exist..Guide us….Don’t directly punish…
Else it will be taken as “one friend: city centre’s MCC dakulu raid maltherge. one more friend: month end avondu bathnd kiset kaas kali aduppodu akulna”
That’s how we see it..build trust officers!!!!!!!!”else u get promotion we get goli soppu”
We as readers we appreciate, we criticize..but we do wish our city be the best in class.

Very good to see that MCC so much active now and will not allow Mangalore to become like Mumbai where you can find illegal constructions on footpaths and every other inch of land left free.........Keep it up

To those who find it wrong......please tell me how is it right for a person to open a business without a valid permit or license.......would you drive a vehicle without a valid license?

Dont forget that these are smart business people and they dont pay any taxes for establishments. Whereas we working class people pay taxes.

VERY BAD INCIDENT HERE. I AM SURE THIS WILL CREATE PROBLEM AND DAMAGE TO ALL INDIVIDUALS.

MCC COULD HAVE GIVEN PROPER ALERT NOTICE BEFORE DOING RAID.

MCC SHOULD GIVE PROPER TARGET DATE TO ALL SHOP OWNERS,OFFICES,MALLS ETC.

LET ALL SHOP OWNERS CLEAR ALL DOCUMENTS,ETC AS PER MCC ON SAID DATE.

AFTER TARGET DATE LET MCC GO FOR RAID.

THIS SHOWS NEGLIGENCE BY MCC AND MAYOR.

Yes i Agree, there is big mafia behind this MCC, to loot and stop few people's business. well, there is way to cross check and issue warning letter at first sight, you can't close any eatery/shop without a warning.. what crime they have done, to throw these things in garbage, you can see this MCC officials face and judge, his main intention is not to check authenticity of the establishment, but try to find reason and close all shops.. no smiles on their face or interest to help poor people to adjust with rules of city. a good govt officer always ready to help the innocent rather harassing for his own benefit. some one needs to act immediately, MLA/MP, please check what is going on before these idiots close all.

Naveen, this is India, if officals ask for documents to be verified, no discrepancies will be found as all details will be fudged. The only way to catch the corrupt or criminal is come in the dark of the night. Action will be taken based on evidence as per law of the country.

This is nothing but harassment by the MCC Officials. The right way should be issue a notice to the concerned entity operating in the mall to submit their records for inspection. The raids may cause ir-recoverable damage to the reputation of the few units as these kinds of incidents leave a bad mark among the public.
