Udupi: Torrential Rains Take Toll on People, Two Dead

Udupi, Jun 19: Torrential rains that lashed the district on Monday June 18 claimed two lives.

Shekar Poojary (38) of Kadloor, Sakkayyamane, slipped and drowned as he was walking by a river.

In another incident, an engineering student Shashikanth Acharya (26) was electrocuted as he accidentally touched the wire of an electric pump  in front of his house. The tragedy occurred during heavy rainfall in the region.

Sheena Poojary of Chitrapadi, Saligrama, was injured when a huge tree fell on an electric pole which in turn crashed on his leg. He was immediately rushed to the Manipal hospital for treatment.

Malnad and the coastal region witnessed heavy rainfall throughout Monday.
