Udupi, Jun 20: Two persons have been arrested in connection with the Tuesday June 19 blast that occured in a stone quarry in Sooda-Nandalike.

The arrested are Anish, manager of Joy Stone Crushers that runs the quarry and Shivanna, who is in-charge of the quarry. They were arrested on Wednesday June 20.

The blast was reportedly a result of a lightning strike on a shed where explosives had been stored. Two women Mallavva and Ambika who were near the shed lost their lives.

The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their families.

Meanwhile, locals and members of district JD(S) demanded the cancellation of the quarry's licence.

May the soul of Mallavva and Ambica rest in eternal peace and give comfort to the bereaved families and friends. They should be compensated and the licence of the quarry should be cancelled. The ones arrested should get life imprisonment and should never see the outside world.

The title of this news itself is explosive and is manipulated in such a way, I thought the women died due to the negligence of the men arrested. It is an unfortunate 'act of nature' as the explosives storage was hit by lightning and the women lost their lives as a resultof the explosion in the storage. The crushers cater to industries whose products are in good demand by many of the Gulfees even.

Can we blame this on the men working for the quarry? I guess not. Thunder, lightning hitting the power cables and causing death and property damage is commen this time of monsoon. My sympathies to the kin of those who died.

    People,

These "arrests" and "releases" on bail will not solve anything....

If Quarry owners pay a decent amount of componsation to victims and place good safety measures in future,,, perhaps that is better in long run....

If it is really a lightning strike on ammunation storage shed,,, then perhaps its unfortunately an accident and gods will....
