Karkala: Man Hacks Wife to Death, Commits Suicide

Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala

Karkala, Jun 20: A woman was hacked to death by her husband at Doopadakatte here on Wednesday June 20. The man later hanged himself.

The deceased are Jagannath Poojary (40) from Puttur and his wife Malini Shetty (35).

Malini had divorced her first husband, from whom she had two children Nithesh (14) and Nischit (11). She later married Jagannath.

The incident occured after both the children left for school in the morning. As there is no other house close by, the murder and subsequent suicide did not come to light immediately.

The crime was noticed at around 11.30 am by a local who had come to collect his chicken which had been tied in front of Jagannath's house. He called out to Jagannath and Malini, but got no response. As the front door was locked from the inside, the person peeped in through an open window, and found Malini lying lifeless in a pool of blood. Jagannath too was found dead, having hanged himself in the bedroom.

The utensils in the kitchen were strewn all over the place. As the couple were alone, the exact reason or motive behind the act is not yet known.

Background

Malini, daughter of the late Jagadish and Umavati from Yeyyadi, Mangalore, had married her first husband Kumar Gowda from Hassan 15 years ago. Due to marital discord, she divorced him and returned to her parental house.

She then worked in a beauty parlour in Kapikad, Mangalore. She developed friendship with Jagannath from Puttur, who was employed in a nearby laundry, and soon both fell in love. Three years ago, they got married in Dharmasthala. However, Neither Malini nor her family knew anything about Jagannath's background. For the past three months, the family had settled in a rented house in Karkala, where Jagannath was engaged in tile-fitting work.

Around 15 days ago, Malini and her family attended her late father's death anniversary, and were back on June 19. On June 18 night at Malini's parental house, Malini and Jagannath got into a fight, and Jagannath is said to have threatened to kill her with a broken beer bottle in hand. Others in the family intervened and broke up the fight, however, they could not fathom the reason for the quarrel.

On June 19, Jagannath returned to Karkala with the children in the morning, Malini returned in the afternoon. On the morning of the incident, though Malini had spoken to her younger sister and mother, she gave no indication of any threat to her life. Jagannath had gone out on the pretext of some work, but later returned and hacked Malini to death, before hanging himself, it is learnt.

Karkala rural police have registered a case. Karkala DySP Jayant Shetty, circle inspector Valentine D'Souza and police inspector Azmat Ali visited the spot and conducted preliminary investigation.

    Dear Mr. Paul D'souza,
This is all that I have got to say to you:
    "A burnt child dreads fire."

[A bad experience or a horrifying incident may scar one's attitude or thinking for a lifetime.]
There are Men also who play around with women's life or you can say committed various crimes. The point is stop coming to conclusion with your experiences. We all know whats going around us. If we cannot change certain things lets not blame others or force our views on others. The best is to pray to God for peace around us.
    "Let bygones by bygones"

    Dear Frank,
How can we predict anyone’s destiny? Caste, Culture is all introduced by us humans. Culture and Background cannot decide individual’s fate. Our values can definitely tell us what is good and bad. Being a good human being and earning the right values is more important, the rest will follow.

    Dear Mr. Paul Dsouza

I completely disagree with your statement. Why do you compare your personal life with someone else's All married relations are not the same and all men who work and earn for the family are not donkeys and no women will cross their limits unless at last she does not know the meaning of marriage.

Marriage is Trust, Understanding, Patience and much more its not a one day relationship. No women will behave weird or no women is cunning. Why do you blame women, it can be the other way round. When fights happen between couples both are to be blamed and if its the women always to be blamed why cant the men question themselves "Am I to be blamed for her behaviour?" It is we who give a chance to others to behave with us erratically. We individuals should learn to respect eachother and our relationship and not to forget relationship is built on TRUST.

Where as the things happened with you none of us our interested to know thats your personal life. Your bitter experiences on Marriage and women are your personal beliefs. But before pointing a finger on anyone why dont we question ourselves,am I perfect.

when there is no peace at home, this will happen. husband does the donkey job for entire family & top of that if women cross limits, this is the result. i will never blame men.

scenes created by women & top of that they are smart to twist the incidents & blame back to husband. never trust a women. it is a common practice in india that when women says every one believes even she is rong,

but when men says no one believes even he is right. strugling a whole life for family, when husband retire & come home, women doesn`t like him to stay at home. she gets disturbed for her freedom. my sincier advice all my male friends, pls take care of your finances even gold in the locker.

i strongly sugest make a accounts on single name.i am lucky my movable & immovable properties were on my name if not today i would have been finished. after giving good education to my daughter in USA this happened with me.if not you will be on the road one day. i am really sorry for this family & incident. study says main cause is a women for divorces.

If only Malini had married a Tulu Nadu person in the beginning (first marriage) this would not have risen. People must choose a partner from their own language and culture. Even Konkani christians must choose a konkani christian partner. people cannot marry any body from any culture and background. It can result in discord and break down in marriage and these kind of incidents increase.

Family Background has nothing to do with a individuals behavior. You can have a gem of a person from the most tough & bad family atmospheres. The problem here is the family system where every body wants to go for nuclear families resulting in no support & security for the family. Our family differences & individualistic approach towards life makes us very vulnerable to mistakes. If Family / extended families are caring & united such disasters will not happen.Sad to see & hear such incidents.

What a stupid act by Jagannath Poojari to hack his wife Malini Shetty. He ruined the children's life. He should have ended his own life and let alone his wife so that she could live her life with her children. Some of these women just get married without checking the background of the man. Since she had a bad experience with her first husband she should have been careful.

Very sad and tragic end of couple. If Jaganath don't want Malini leave her alone for the sake of teen aged childrens @ least. Now a days we are witnessing violence in the family matters in undivided DK/Udupi Districts, ultimately ending with causalities/ murders.Take example of Vektarama Bhat of Puttur, few days back, who is an monster, mercilessly hacked to death of his childrens and wife! Where we,Kudlaites heading for? Civilized life ?May souls rest in peace.
