Bangalore: CM Orders Probe into Excise Irregularities in Dakshina Kannada

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Jun 21: The alleged irregularities in the Excise Department in coastal Dakshina Kannada district will be subjected to a probe on the orders of the Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda.

The Chief Minister took the decision to order the probe after Dakshina Kannada JD(S) leader R Janardhana met him and demanded a comprehensive inquiry and removal of the Excise Minister M P Renukacharya for allegedly being ''hand-in-golve with corrupt officials in the Excise Department.”

Janardhan claimed that the chief minister assured him that the State Government would probe the charges and directed officials to submit a report in three days.

However, Minister Renukacharya clarified that the probe was ordered against the Dakshina Kannada Excise Inspector and not against him.

''The reports about probe against him are totally baseless,” Renukacharyaa said.

Speaking to reporters after submitting a memorandum to Gowda on the “irregularities,” Janardhan said he demanded removal of Excise Minister M P Renukacharya from the ministry, alleging he was hand-in-glove with excise officials and his inaction against corrupt excise officials was causing losses to the exchequer.

The JD(S) leader also alleged that the excise officials were ‘extorting’ money from liqour and wine shopowners for no tenable reasons.

But Renukacharya, a loyalist of former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, refuted the charges and said Gowda should have consulted him before taking a decision.

“The Chief Minister should have first consulted his cabinet colleague before initiating a probe into the affairs of the Department,” he said and felt it was not correct on the part of the chief minister to direct his department officials to submit a report on the issue in three days.

Answering questions, Renukacharya, however, said the Chief Minister had all rights to look into any department. ''But courtesy demands that the minister concerned must be consulted,” he said.

Renukacharya claimed that excise revenue had gone up and he had tightened administration to curb ‘violations’ by liqour and wine shop-owners.

Obviously, these lobbies are spreading stories to tarnish his image, the minister added.

CM DVS I think should switch over to congress party.there is limit for every thing.Good people/politicians hardly we find in these days. business personals must have a association & unofficially any one demand for money, they must boil him. CM should pay surprise visits to government dept, & consult people whats happening arround & then he will know..... from small cockroch to big elephants are all involved in corruption.

There are hardly few wine shops in the state where liquor is not sold in retail in the dingy back-rooms and many such shops are located close to cop stations. This practice has been going on for ages regardless of the party in power.

There is no Excise Irregularities in Dakshina Kannada. The wine shops were located in the city so it was difficult for the villagers to travel and buy the liquor in color bottles. Now the liquor in so many colors is available in every village corner and sold in small pan beedi shops .They are hidden in bushes and the excise departments knowingly do not undertake raids.Ask the beedi workers women and they will guide you where their hard earned money is spent by their family head. The excise minister purposely not giving bar and wine shop licences so that only illegal shops sell the liquor and all the departments will get their legitimate share .

@ Dinesh Poojary, I think you had taken little “enne”, while you were writing your comment. All the world knows what is happening in Karnataka, with your BJP party, and the mockery that ministers make by attacking the CM. And leave CM not even your high-command has the guts to sack them, because they all eat in the same plate. Think twice before you comment man!!!

If the Minister had a clean record he would have agreed to the probe to clear himself. Obviously he has guilt pangs (not that this is any breaking news). If DVS removes this bloke from the Ministry .. and gradually the rest .. he will do himself a favor and may eventually be a potential candidate for central ministry. long shot ,, but my gut feeling PM material - only if and if .. he can be bold to put aside the saffron agenda of his party .....

Actual war started from here.Renukacahrya is just an excuse and DVS, decided to take head on with BSY's camp one by one.Astonishing factor is why BJP High Command inactive in this crucial juncture!?Apart from that anticipatory bail of BSY on the issue of Graft case further tighten the nose of DVS..Hence CM, now takes all salvos as serious!!! There are wider repercussion in this new episode of Renu which may divide war between the politicians of Vakkaliga versus Veerashaivas. Frankly, these kind of misunderstanding between the communities are not augur well for democracy. These misunderstandings are further Polarize politics of Karnataka.

This should not be restricted to DK alone. Throughout Karnataka 90% of retail liquor shops charge 10 to 30% over and above the MRP on liquor and beer! This is itself a big scam and all that extra money is black money! Ever since the BJP government reduced the commission from 20% to 10%, this has become rampant and looks everybody, including the Excise Ministry, exxise department is involved in this!. couple of years back when this issue was highlighted to the liquor merchants association president and the excise minister himself, both of them promised to take action if this was true and ever since nothing is heard of this!. everybody knows this but still are quiet itself indicates the larger picture!. Can DVS order a inquiry into this too!?

Renukacahrya....How CM will consult you before ordering a probe of irregularity of your department?Because you and your friends openly challenging and degrading him with unparliamentary words!

You might known the fact if you differ with CM, as per good precedent you are liable to give resignation. Theta is what the precedent of democracy which we can see in Karnataka but before BJP assumed power.

You are # 1 Bete noire of DVS, hence no right to remain in the DVS cabinet, provided if you have little morality..........

Don't forget there may be more in the pipeline of DVS who, he thinks not performing as per Cabinet deliberations.

Now,all out war is started between BSY group and DVS camp as BSY did get bail from Graft case..Just white another one week for political Manoranjan..

BJP CMs take action on defaulters irrespective of their party where as congress always defends their people. Ideally MMS, Chidu, SMK etc should have been ousted by now for their corruption. But congress dirty lady protects them.
