Mangalore/Udupi: 'Jail Bharo' Protest Against UPA - BJP Workers Court Arrest

Mangalore, Jun 22: The BJP on Friday June 22 staged 'jail bharo’ protest amidst heavy rain at Pumpwell circle here, as part of the day-long nationwide agitation against the UPA goverment for hiking prices of essential commodities. It also marked the culmination of 'Jan Sangarsh Abhiyan' which began on June 7.

Lashing out at the corrupt practices of the UPA government, Capt Ganesh Karnik, MLC said that the central ruling party had made the life of the common man miserable by constantly increasing the prices of essential commodities and petrol products.

Taking the UPA government to task, Karnik said that with wrong economic policies, illegal storage of food items, rise in the interest rate, and exporting of essential products to  foreign countries instead of providing them to the citizens, the ruling government had completely failed to keep the public happy.

Yogish Bhat and Shrikar Prabhu also addressed the protestors. They threatened to continue the protest until the UPA government brings down the prices.

BJP leaders Amithakala, Shakila Rao, Praveen, former mayors, Raghunath Kini, Surekha, Sudhir Shetty Kannur, Shakunthala and others were present.

Several BJP leaders and party workers courted arrest during the day-long agitation. Apart from Mangalore, the opposition party also organized public meetings, protests and street marches in different parts of the country to create awareness among the public on these issues.

As BJP party workers staged the protest on the road, traffic was disrupted for sometime.

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SM)

Udupi, Jun 22: The district BJP, as part of the nationwide agitation, took to streets here on
Friday June 22 and protested against the central UPA government in a unique way.

The BJP workers, to express their disappointment and angst over the hike in prices of essential commodities, prepared coffee in the middle of the road using firewood, keeping gas cylinders upside down, and distributed it among the people present.

The protest took place in front of the taluk office.

After the coffee, the BJP leaders and workers went on a procession shouting slogans against the UPA and demanding decrease in the prices. Hundreds of protesters formed the human chain.

Sheela Shetty (BJP leader) said that the misery of housewives had increased and the plight of women had become worse.

K Udhaya Kumar Shetty (Zilla BJP president) said that BJP government is not corrupted and whoever is involved in corruption is out of the cabinet. “The existing PM doesn’t know the meaning and responsibilities of the post of Prime Minister”, he added.

As many as 190 protesters got themselves arrested.

District BJP president Vinaykumar Shetty, Tingale Vikramarjuna Hegde, MLA Raghupati Bhat, APMC president Suresh Nayak, municipal president Kiran Kumar, BJP Mahila Morcha district unit presdent Reshma Uday Shetty, members Bharati Chandrashekar, Manjula Nayak and others were present.

By the way, how many among those protestors work honestly & pay income tax & do not have black money ???

Oil is becoming costly in India despite crude price fall internationally is mainly due to falling almost all currencies against rising US Dollar. I think better to add these economics basics in elementary text books.

This road show is nothing but votebank politics to cover up the weaknesses of the ruling party. In order to garner votes these petty politicians are ready to do anything. Last four years of rule in Karnataka will go down in the history books as the most corrupt period of independent India.Practically every politician is busy making a fortune for himself rather than working sincerely for the welfare of the people. We need to go beyond caste, religion and gender and elect people who work, dream dreams for the for the nation and state.God can only save Coastal Karnataka from the forces whose only purpose is to sow seeds of division and hatred in the Society.Being the most educated district i am sure people will see through this street politics and show that their credentials as they did recently during Udupi Chikmangulur By-elections.

When BJP/NDA was ruling for 5 years Pakistan occupied Kargil.  Never ever in the history of Congress/UPA Pakistan occupied India.

This can happen only in ndaBJP rule in India. If W. J. Clinton was not intervening to press hard to Ex-P.M Nawaz Sherief to withdraw Pakistani forces from Indian soil we were in the Stone Age. THE BJP SCARED/SHIVERING TO CROSS THE BORDER & GIVING LECTURES TO CONGRESS/UPA.

The generously & liberally offered money in cash by the loyal citizens of India were robbed/looted & pocketed by bjp/nda & its henchmen during Kargil war. Not even they spared coffins of soldiers. Poor soldiers received only bullets. Now the BJP & its henchmen are agitating against price rises in Karnataka. Dear Police put them in jail for ever.
    1) Three times Milk prices were increased.
    2) Four times Electricity Unit prices were increased.
    3) 200 percent land registrations were increased.
    4) 200 percent annual taxes for houses were increased by the bjp led corporation.
There is no alternative to congress which is the best in National security & it can deliver good economy to the nation.

The courtesy & mercies of BJP's Dhesh Bhakt people to Pakistan to & fro samjotha express then burning it. Later Bangladesh expresses then started border shooting from Bangladesh against Indian civilians & soldiers.  RSS was pushing towards Communal side L.K. Advani was trapped in-between Vajpayee & RSS.

L.K. Advani still thinks becoming P.M. is his birth right. Modi says might is right. Totally what not is right?

During my childhood in 1990's, i used to wonder how poor my country's currency is compared to US dollar. Today, my son will feel the same.Even international media & financial analysts have outlined the reason for Indian rupee fall to poor economic policies of the ruling Govt(UPA). Our finance minister is busy campaigning for his presidential election !! Petrol prices in India are more than neighboring countries like Pak & Bangla !! UPA is leading India to a free fall.

Price increases of essential commodities are a burning issue and there is no doubt@ it.Being said that State BJP govt's share are also immense. Why petrol tax is not decreased as all other states obliged the Central Govt's plea...
secondly,milk/electricity(essential services) and vat is highest in the country which effects/affects all goods and service in the state.

This Jail Bharo movement because...To keep it's workers amused for the following reasons
A defeat and isolation in Presidential election by it's alleys
To divert the attention of whole sale corruptions particularly in Karnataka
