Kuwait: Two Mangaloreans Engulfed by Waves at Mehabulla Beach

Manjeshwar Mohandas Kamath

Kuwait, Jun 22: Santhosh Saliyan (26) from Kinnigoli and Yogish Poojary (25) from Kavoor were feared drowned after they were swept away by strong waves while swimming in Mehabulla beach, near Fahaheel, Kuwait on Thursday Jun 21 at around 6.30 pm.

Santhosh and Yogish

The tragedy occured when both Saliyan and Poojary had gone swimming with their friends.

Although their friends tried their best to rescue them, it was all in vain.

Immediately fire brigade and police team as well as the water rescue team rushed and joined the search for the boys.

The bodies were found on Friday June 22, approximately 15 km away from the spot of the incident.

A case has been registered with the police.

Very sad incident.I can't imagine the situation their families going through.May God gave the strength during this tough time.I am living in Kuwait for almost 15 years and I feel that recreation facility for expatriate community is negligeable.People pass the time either by watching TV at their sofa or the sofa of loved ones.Routines are from home to office or home to mall.Every one year or two planning for vacation, booking with cheapest airline, targetting 30Kg baggage with whatever best purchase, ultimately at airport paying excess baggage for the item which costs 25% of the penalty.Once returned planning to end gulf life within next 2 years but being insecured, coming back to this promised land. This is the life story of many Mangaloreans like me.I symphasize thousands of bachelors stay in labour camps away from families.Due to harsh weather from May to August it will be hard to do any outdoor sport because temperature peakes upto 53 degree C with sand storms often.Even I used to go for swimming late in the evenings.Usually Kuwait sea is calm, but there are few places with potential danger like the one where this tragedy happened. They might have thought of having best physical exercises and ventured into sea.Dear friends please be extra carefull when you go to sea shore.
