Shimoga, Jun 23 : Here is a case straight out of bollywood movie 'Munna Bhai MBBS' - the story of a person who secured a duplicate MBBS degree from Kuvempu University, Shimoga and is serving as a doctor in Dubai!
Recently, Kuvempu Univeristy had been in the news over duplicate marks cards. Now it is reported that the scope of this scam has extended to foreign countries too.
A person named 'Dr' Umar Pasha is a medical professional in Dubai, all thanks to a duplicate marks card. The police investigating Kuvempu University scam have revealed this shocking truth.
Dr Pasha who reportedly claimed that he studied at JJM Medical College, Davanagere did his MBBS degree in the year 1999-2000. He produced a certificate and marks card to the University through Medical Council for attestation. But, on verification, it has been found that there were no records found in the University in his name.
On learning of this incident, University Syndicate discussed the matter in its last meeting, and decided to lodge a police complaint. It may be recalled that recently a similar case had come to the light when Haleshappa, a KHB Engineer in the state government was caught after verification of his certificates and marks cards. The authorities then suspected a big scam regarding this.
At Kuvembpu University, at least 20 people have been arrested for 'changing' answer sheets, and producing duplicate marks cards. Seven staff of the University and three students are among 20 arrested.
Police are expected to file a charge sheet soon in this case.
