Bangalore: Law Minister Suresh Kumar Tenders Resignation, CM Rejects

Bangalore, Jun 23 (PTI): Karnataka Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister S Suresh Kumar tendered his resignation today following allegations that he suppressed facts in an affidavit for obtaining a residential site, jolting the BJP government.

However, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda made it clear he would not accept his resignation in haste.

Suresh Kumar, also Urban Development Minister, denied the allegations and said he is ready to face any inquiry to bring out the truth. "I have resigned to save the party and government from embarrassment", he told reporters.

A section of the media today carried a story quoted to an RTI applicant, who alleged that Kumar suppressed the fact that his kin already owned two sites while obtaining the 'G' category (discretionary quota of Chief Minister) site here.

"I have not done anything illegal. I have not added any false information in the affidavit", Kumar said. "I don't think I have done anything wrong".

He said his mother, a retired teacher, sold her house here and two sites at Nelamangala on the city outskirts, which does not come under Bangalore Development Authority, including one in the name of his daughter, to buy the present property.

The information provided in the affidavit at the time of obtaining the 'G' category site is true, Kumar asserted.

The Chief Minister said he has some information about the site allotment issue and as per his understanding, there is no "wrongdoing" and "injustice".

"I will not accept the resignation immediately. After detailed consideration, I will take a decision only if I find wrongdoing", Gowda said, and apparently took a dig at the RTI applicant, saying it's not correct to attempt to sideline a person from public life.

"Everybody knows Suresh Kumar. I don't have to tell about him", he said, obviously referring to the clean image enjoyed by the two-time city corporator and three-time MLA. "He will continue (as Minister)".

My dog barks only at unwanted people - yours donot bark because you have muzzled him up as he is calling you names - dumbo/idiot/brainless/good for nothing etc etc.

with this Mr. Suresh Kumar , Law Minister resigning, your attitude, your way of writing here has drastically changed to sudden unimaginable hatred towards everyone. I have not done anything wrong to Mr. S. Kumar. He himself did that to him. You should be angry at him for letting you and many other believers of him for taking you all for a ride. Unless someone takes up the matter, there will be no case against them (same like someone took on Mr. Kumars case through RTI.) Just saying so and so of

    DP,
On the outset, I do not belong or support any political party. So do not label people as CONGIs without knowing them.

Personally, I feel sorry for you. After reading your several comments below shows that you are losing your common senses and trying to grasp some fresh air.

I know people who have been to kashiyatra and came back to Mangalore to live as good human being, who have never stopped eating beef. I enjoy their company and friendship since they are real human beings.

People do what they like to do and enjoy if they can afford to pay for the same. When they cannot afford, then people get involved in corrupt means and other activities to get things they want and like.

Based on your earlier comments during MP election in Udipi, people like you are not ready to face the deposit losses during the upcoming assembly elections. Read some of the newspapers to get d on frustration of people on current events and how much development (or corruption) has been accomplished by the ruling party in last four years.

Meanwhile, we should notice here that this is the 13th wicket of Karnataka Govt. They came to power for the first time and most of them had only one agenda, MAKING MONEY, god knows what happened to those ideologies taught by RSS.

    Just to recall those 13,

    Yadiyurappa - Illegal mining

Ramachandra Gowda - Medical seat scam

Your congress high-command never punished any leader for corruption. You bribed even supreme court judges. Your congis did not even leave wakf land. All mines of Bellary, Kanakapura, Chitradurga, Tumkur were emptied by your dirty congress. 60% of karnataka lands are in the same of congis.

Bharath khanda was a god's country until you shakunis entered here in 1498. Everything spoiled by you. All evils were brought by you as parcel. Do you have something called SHAME on your face?

One thing I can't understand that same Suresh Kumar, law minister, used to defend BSY in and outside of the Assembly!I am not charging him also nor I am praising him as a saint.Till end of the episode of BSY's resignation he was with BSY camp when show of strength drama, warranted and when BSY seemed in receiving end , he changed from drowning ship!

If someone claims that he is pure/corrupt free/Saidhathika principle followers then, I think being a law Minister what his behavior and gesture towards the mentor/ individual or camp or party or self respect seems to be contradictory!!Take for example of Yogish Bhat MLA, Mangalore, who never involved any scam or suspicious movement in his political tenure can be called pure as 24 karat.I think Being a law Minister,Suresh Kumar made a mistake and tendering resignation is appropriate.

He should be, I guess, when the one and only honest minister he thought was charged with wrong doing. But this has to be proved yet and I hope the charges are wrong.

But one thing irks me, as Law Minister he always sided the wrong doing ministers without taking any action against them.

That shows him in poor light, favouring his party men, absolving them of all their wrong doings.
As such he cannot be called a "CLEAN" minister as corrupt can be - wrongly amassaing wealth abusing their position or bending laws to benefit the party members But on the whole, I think he is sincere person.

The allegations are done by none other than a BJP worker and a friend of suresh kumar. He has evidenced his claim in media. So, there could be truth, conspiracy or simply a scripted drama. On the basis of documents what he presented, the issue boils down to whether the satyanarayana hsg plots allocated to his fly are subsidized or not. If not, then he is not guilty. If yes, then he is guilty. I guess this is a simple find. Irrespective of what he indicated in his afidavit, if the plots are subsidized plots - then he is a smart cheat. Time to wait and watch, additional revelations.

Your comments today for the news about “Raids Find IAS Officer, Govt Officials Owning Huge Wealth“ reads “No one cares about common man. All are engaged in wealth accumulation”.

In this news article below, your comment reads “If congress is to follow Suresh Kumar's steps, there will hardly be any politicians left in their party”.

Please close your eyes for few seconds and ask yourself, based on BJP corruption Nataka in last four years, is there anyone in public administration or politics left without being corrupt who are suposed to serve common man and gets paid for the same. As so called doctor, DR. Kamath pointed out, this is the “nothing but height of Hyperactive opposition” applies primarily to BJP. Now open your eyes to gain an understanding of the corrupt situation in Karnataka and see the mess that has been created for common man.

Suresh Kumar has taken this decision with personal anguish and feelings. He is the only politician who still drives Bajaj Chetak to his wife to work though he is a cabinet minister. His residence in rajajinagar is very small and ordinary.

All politicians denies any allegations against them. But he has set an example as a role model for all politicians. By resigning he has gained more respect from people.

I am sure Suresh Kumar will come out clean. He is our FUTURE CM.

You can't find any SEEDA politician BJP.All politicians are corrupt one or other way..Check every MLA's wealth and way of living particularly in recent times that also under BSY's tenure onward...we feel the differences.Another important thing is officials also hand in glove with politicians and making wealth for generations(latest instance is Lokayukta raid and result)So, comparatively Suresh Kumar better but not free of.....!!!

It happens to each and everyone, some place, some time - one falls for the lure, however honest one is.
There will be strong/influential/corrupt people behind these kind of incidents. Since it was Yeddy who authorized it, one need not go into details of Mr. Kumar's integrity. He had to fall for it, he had to.
DVS is in a quandrary - another minister lost, when he is holding already 20 plus - poor guy - he has to reject this resignation - which Mr. Kumar knowing he is in the wrong, has tendered.
If he accepts, DVS will have a couple of ministers left?

Suresh Kumar is one of the rare honest politicians in Kar politics. This allegation will prove to be wrong as the person who has alleged this seems to have personal grudge against Kumar as he was a close friend of Kumar once. More over, people should know that couple of years ago, Kumar had applied for bank loan for construction of his house and banks rejected citing that his income is less to obtain loan. He didn't goto use his influence as a minister for the loan- instead mortgaged the gold to obtain loan and constructed house. This new allegation is baseless as he doesnt have a house of his own- but the house is mortgaged and more over.

I do not think we must make a big cry out of this resignation as its a normal news nowadays in Karnataka Govt and Central govts ! This is day to day affair today and nothing special. A Day will become soon where we will not even read such news as land Grabing and cheating by ministers has become a daily routine . As rulers themselves are protecting these elements very little we can expect to eliminate these elements

I think this is the height of wrong allegations.A MLA is legally entitled for a Housing site in a City and he was alotted a site in legal way .As per some news report He didnt had house in his own name but had house in the name of Mother and sisters .I dont know how come a false allegation is being put on a Right minister .This is nothing but height of Hiperactive opposition and DVS has rightly not accepted his resignation

Mr Suresh Kumar,is a well known personality as minister for law in Karnataka. He is reachable to common man always. He is also a non contraversial figure during his tenure. His prompt resignation to the post of minister on moral ground itself an ideal action which is very rare in Indian politics and reminds late P.M.Lalbahadur Shastri's resignation on moral resposiblity after a major train accident.Mr Kumar will prove his ablity. It is a great loss for the Sadanand Gowda's ministry.
