Mangalore: Any Raids must be Informed -Mayor Banu

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore

Mangalore, Jun 24: In the wake of  ongoing raids by the MCC officials around the city, Gulzan Banu, Mayor of Mangalore has instructed MCC officials to send her information prior to any such raids conducted by them.

In a notice sent to the MCC commissioner, she has asked officials to inform her of any such onsets in advance.

It can be recalled that, MCC officials had raided illegal slaughter houses near Kudroli and recovered a number of sheep which were held captive at an abattoir. The recovered sheep were later released by the Mayor but with a fine of a mere Rs 2000.

MCC officials have raided even more slaughter houses at Bunder, wher more sheep were recovered.  This time, the MCC officials did not give a chance to the Mayor to fine the shopkeepers, but the officials sold the sheep in a quick open tender process.

Now the Mayor has instructed officials to brief  her before any such operations are carried out in and around the city .

Reacting to the notice of the Mayor, an MCC official has stated that, there are no such requirements in the law to inform the Mayor about conducting raids in the city. MCC officials have control  to raid any establishments, if found to be illegal without informing any elected representatives.

Firstly, Do you know to spell the word Mayor? What good will you do by knowing that information? Will you write it on your toilet paper?? Useless and good for nothing person trying to make money with anything and everything!!  Use your time in doing something good for Mangalore instead of getting into issues that is not your business

Its so funny the mayor is begging to be informed of the raids that take place against illegal activities by the authorities who do so under the law that allows them to do so. Mayor's decision seems very ridiculous and perhaps with dubious motives to protect corrupt people if not proven otherwise.
This reminds me of the very cops who used to inform in advance their 'haphtha paying criminals' before a raid will take place !!

Francis Sequeira, Dubai, I fully endorse your opinion (with facts). Every Indian has the fundamental right to eat what they want and especially Christians and Muslims and a huge number of Hindus do eat beef on a daily basis.

BJP has no right to enforce their views on us under the law of this nation. Let BJP fight corruption in its party in Karnataka and all over India first and then tell people what and what not to eat!! no nation debates so uselessly like the Indians especially people of Karnataka debate about beef eating which is our fundamental and religious right.

Write something in changing the ID it does not make sence. People know who is writting and what is writting. But Mayor does not have a power to ask MCC people to inform prior to raid. If so required being a Mayor why she allow such things in first place. She should support for law of land rather than her own intrest. This is not right to say so. Then tomarrow she will ask police to do the same.

It is not easy for a Muslim lady/woman to be in public life, not only in India, but anywhere else in the world for that matter.

Mayor Banu deserves to be appreciated for her courage, and the will to serve the people of Mangalore against many odds

Mangaloreans should be proud, that they have made it possible for a Muslim woman to be the Mayor.

It would be great, if the Mangalorens now keep aside the religious sentiments/hatreds/jealousy/political enimities and the like, and support the Mayor whole heartedly, forgive and forget should she make some growing up mistakes and assit her, to climb the ladder of achivements and success and one day become the CM of Karnataka.

Mayor Banu Gulzar you have taken the right decision. You should be informed of raids not only on slaughter houses but in every place where illegal activities are going on. Even after the raids last week on health inspector was caught taking bribe. This is utter nonsense. I am sure there must be some corrupt people still taking bribes. These recent so called raids was an eve wash to show to the the innocent public. The ones caught doing this illegal bribe taking should be jailed and never taken back to work. and their bank accounts should be sealed and their assets should be raided to verify the unaccounted wealth.

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization UN (FAO) report titled Livestock Information, Sector Analysis and Policy Branch says the largest consumed meat in India is beef. The total consumption of beef in India per year is 26 lakh tonnes, as compared to 6 lakh tonnes of mutton and 14 lakh tonnes of pork. It is clearly the common choice of meat for the Indian population.

This year 2012, India will displace the United States as the world's third largest beef exporter, behind Brazil and Australia. In just the first half of 2012, India exported $1.6 billion worth of meat, and a 30 percent growth in revenue from 2011 exports is projected by the end of the year, according to a U.S. Beef Export Federation study

An estimated 1.5 million cows, valued at up to $500 million, are smuggled out of India annually, which some analysts say provide more than 50% of beef consumed in neighboring Bangladesh.

While the bulk of Indian exports is buffalo meat bound for Middle East and Southeast Asian markets

The Madhya Pradesh government criminalizes the consumption of beef. The Gau-Vansh Vadh Pratishedh (Sanshodhan) Vidheyak (Madhya Pradesh prohibition of slaughter of cow-progeny Bill)

The Karnataka government in 2010 passed the 'Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill'

The Gujarat Government this year passed the Animal Preservation (Amended) Act both these bills criminalized cow slaughter.

The names of the above bills benevolently say about banning the slaughter or protecting the cow, but in reality they ban the food habits and harass the entire community that eat the beef or involve in its production

In the name of protecting 'religious beliefs', BJP many believe has encroached upon the fundamental rights of the people.

"Most Indians eat beef, and Indians mostly eat beef. The principled non eaters of beef are a minority in India"

Mayor is not the person to monitor what the City commissioners directives within the framework. Of course they should be closely monitored for harassment and taking bribes in the name of raids.

In my opinion there should be no requirement of licences for small businesses owned by Indian nationals. (one man show businesses) Only ethiical rules and regulations to be followed, like not to use similar names etc

Also keeping of accounts for tax purposes should not be a must. All sole traders should be allowed to do business, by paying a fixed amount money to the govt on monthly or yearly basis in lieu of multi tax system.

This payment receipt in lieu of tax should be considered as the licence to do business.

Ha ha, so many favorable comments regarding Mayor Gulzaar Banu but none of them condemn the illegal outlets operating in Mangalore territory. Since everybody know the caliber of Mayor like Gulzaar Banu, MCC Official too will not wait for Mayors approval for raid & nor it is required by law too.

For everybody’s information Gulzaar Banu not elected because of Majority, rather she became Mayor by chance just because no other choice with adherence to this year’s Mayor Election Rule. Bharat Kumar accepted Rs 2,500/- bribe and caught by Lokayukta but Mayor herself imposed mere Rs 2,000/- fine for illegal slaughter house and released all “Bakris” So now the truth has come out for bribery case.

If illegal business outlet can be let free by charging Rs 2,000/- fine then why people will pay bribe of Rs 2,500/- for permission or vice versa. Why can’t all people including so called Minority community pay just Rs 2,500/- to Rs 10,000/- charges for permission and start legal business? So here is the truth prevailing. To run business like slaughter house, they need to keep one veterinary doctor for testing and approving beef for sale and moreover they have to adhere to all safety precautions too especially dumping of waste in proper manner which many business minded people do not like it atall

As per Law Income Tax Officer ,Health Inspectors etc have full powers to conduct Raids or investigations .Because it is in the By Laws of the Muncipality or our constituition .But here as a Courtesy I think they could have intimated the Mayor .After all it all depends on how Cordial the relations are between Mayor, elected corporators and the Officials

That means everything was happening without your knowledge. Is there any unity of command?
To whome MCC officals are reporting? Our Political system is nothing but a Joke.Without any eligibility anybody can become anything.

Due to Congress Mayor, officials misusing their power for certain extent.I tell you why, consider Madam Gulzar Banu belongs to BJP then these corrupt officials dare to raid with out informing her?No...certainly no..Can Chief Secretary act @ his own? or can Secretaries of the department act their own?

Now Bharath Kumar got trapped while accepting bribe. The scene when he thrown 'Paanipuri' with out regard to food and person got god's wrath and his respect is gone to Ashtray!!All Daijiworld readers, irrespective of party affiliations or community affiliations just prayed for those poor petty business people and cursed MCC official Bharath Kumar..When God intervenes there is no barrier and result is 100% !!!what we expect from such kind officials. They must understand Madam Gulzar Banu is Mayor, besides PEOPLE's REP.They are using political leadership vacuum of the BJP.

Its nice to see that, our mayor has woke up now!!!
This is for all commentators who appreciated Mayor for her good work. Please note that, she was not informed and she didnot know about the riding.
I have some doubts. She has released the sheep, then what is the use of riding?
Secondly, no where its mentioned in the law to inform mayor about conducting raids. It shows our Mayor's knowledge. She is saying that, MCC officials has to inform her so that, she can inform the culprits to close the shops prior to ride.

Once details are informed to her, she will ensure that nobody is caught from her group.
I do not know why others cannot do similar to Banu
