Mangalore, Jun 26:
There was a sense of pride and satisfaction among the SSLC students and teachers of Government PU Women College, High School Division, Balmatta, and for a good reason too. The school was the only government school in the city to have achieved cent percent results in the SSLC examinations this year.

Everyone gathered to congratulate the students who secured cent percent result in the SSLC exam (2011-12) in a congratulation meet organized by DK District Kannada Sahithya Parishat at Government Pre-University College, Balmatta, on Monday June 25.

Headmistress Vinoda, teachers Lidwin Lobo, Vijayalaxmi, Joyce Mary, Vishalakshi, Abdul Khader, Ronald Fernandes, Girish, and Sunitha were honored and the students gave them a standing ovation.

MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik, the chief guest of the programme, while addressing them said that all those studying in government schools and colleges would generally have a poor financial family background. “However, when looking at the list of achievers, be it Dr M Vishweshwarayya or Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, we see they had struggled hard during their schooling days and they studied in government schools,” he said.

Pointing out at the success of the Balmatta School, Karnik said that it is a wrong notion about government schools which are labeled poor quality of education. He also pointed out that girls’ education being stopped after SSLC or PUC is not a good move and called upon all girls in the institution to take it as a challenge to continue their education. He expressed his happiness about the commitment of the teachers in the school who made it possible.

Speaking on the occasion, DK district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura said that the current education policies are the root cause of all the confusion in the education system and not the institutions or teachers. Pointing out that Kannada medium schools should be boosted with all support, English should be learnt as a language while medium of education should be Kannada.

Deputy speaker Yogish Bhat presided over the programme. Vasudev Kamath, Balakrishna Kottari, Dr Tara Rao, Dayavathi, and Ranganath Kini were also present. Of 77 girls students in the school there are 6 students who passed with distinction, 10 students with marks above 500, and 34 students with first class.

Rakesh Shetty...you are right. Karnataka is shining in all fields. But you forgot to mention about corruption and communal disharmony. Now don't tell me UPA is corrupt and all. Don't bring UPA here as we are highlighting about achievements of Karnataka Government.

Hearty congratulations to all the staff members and the students for the excellent performance. Dear students, you have brought dignity and pride to your school. The result shows that if a government school has good dedicated and motivated teachers and other staff, they can not only be on par with other private schools but also can be above them. I hope and wish that this year's students will get inspiration from this result and shine in the coming year's exams.
