Mangalore, Jun 27: A private bus plying from State Bank in the city to Talapady met with an accident in front of Kanachur Mill at Kalappu here on Wednesday June 27, resulting in injuries to several passengers and the driver.

At the accident spot, a portion on one side of the road is under repair. The spot is slippery and is covered with mud and jelly stones.

The accident occured when the driver of the bus (No 43a, KA 19 AE 9122), in an attempt to overtake another bus plying to Talapady, veered off to under-repair road and rolled over the side.

It is said that the other bus was plying on the old part of the road, and the Maroli bus driver steered to the wrong side over the new road to overtake. Also, it is said that there was another bus plying from the opposite direction. In the resulting confusion, the Maroli bus driver lost control.

As many as 22 people including driver Krishna Shetty of Talapady and conductor Suresh were injured. Krishna and Suresh are said to be critical.

Of the injured, nine have been admitted to Fr Muller Hospital in Mangalore, eight in Sahara Hospital and five in Netaji hospital in Thokkottu.

Ratan Monteiro (18), his brother Reevan Monteiro, Lavanya Kondana (21), Althaf Sankolige and Deepak Boliyar are among the injured admitted to Sahara hospital.

MLA U T Khader visited the spot. Speaking to Daijiworld, he blamed the negligence of the driver and also the road constructors in not installing sign boards. He said that he has called a meeting of flyover constructors next week where this issue would be discussed.

More details awaited.

Route No. 27 is giving good and safe service because there is no competition whatsoever on this route, as all the Buses are owned "surprisingly" by the same person. I wonder how come nobody else has tried to get their buses in that particular route.

Thank you Spoorthi Ullal and Ramesh Pandith for the pictures of the horrible accident caused by the reckless drivers of both the drivers. These drivers do not care for the precious lives they are carrying every time they are on the wheels. Thank God there were no loss of life but looking at the pictures there would have been some fatalities. The police should take action on the drivers and suspend their licenses forever.

It is needless to say that driver is responsible for his rash driving. In most of the city bus drivers are joy riders at the cost of poor passengers. When they drive they think that they are flying aircraft. So irresponsible can't imagine.Besides overcrowding. When the actual capacity of the bus is 42 plus you have to see during peak hours it is crossing70 plus passengers.Conductor is find it difficult to manage with his usual comments Dhumbu pole,Pira pole,Nadutu serle, barik pole.

City bus journey especially during peak hours is really pathetic. No solution for this.RTO is tight lipped in this regard.Only alternative/viable solution is introduction of local train. But nobody bothers coz once it is introduced Politicians can not make money.Even government buses can be tried. Can any responsible department open their eyes to set it right this perpetual problem.

Almost all Bus and Truck personnel are salaried employees. Then why they rush after risking Passengers life? Will they get any commission for more collection? Only way out for our regional RTO is put the Driver behind bar for 6 to 12 months if it is major accidents but without human loss and put them in jail for 6 to 12 years without payroll if they involved in fatal accidents. Cancel their license for ever in case of human loss and Rupees 10 lakhs of compensation to deceased kin to be paid by owner of the vehicle too per human loss. Same rule should be applicable for negligence of duties by RTO Officers too in case of major or fatal accidents due to bad roads

The time allotted to cover the distance of 16 Kms from State Bank to Talapadi is 40 minutes. Total allotted bus stops are 23 in this route.

BUT ALL THE BUSES NEED 20 MINUTES TO REACH PUMPWELL WHICH IS THE 7TH STOP WITHIN 4 Kms. Rest of the 16 stops of 12Kms will be covered in 20 minutes.

While questioned about this the answer was this is the time allotted by the RTO and Goondas , rowdies are monitoring this at every check point.

RTO s decision also looks FUNNY . Just see the time allotted to cover the distance of 60 Kms(Mangalore - Udupi). it is 75 minutes with 16 stops. ( 9 stops are within city limit, where city buses stops)

IS THERE ANY RULES AND REGULATIONS FOLLWED WHILE ISSUING PERMITS AND DECIDING THE TIME REQUIRED TO COVER THAT ROUTE ?

If anyone has to be blame, blame to system of city bus management under MCC. Every bus given particular timing and each 5 minutes one city bus has to pass particulat location. If Driver do not maintain the timing specified, then he cannot pick-up any passenger if he is late in the next points. And there are time-keepers every stop and location, they have been bribed by every bus conductor if the bus is late more than 2 minutes of speified timing. If anyone has to be blamed, that is either RTO office or MCC office (not sure) who gives permits and timing of bus movement. Because the permit given based on every 5 minutes one pass need to pass the particular location. There are number of buses carrying 43 number in one route and each bus given permit of just minimal (5 or 8 minutes) time gap ? Is it reasonable in Indian routes and roads ? That too Mangalore where road are like gutters ??? So whom we have blame here. Is it driver, Time-keeper, or owner of the bus or permit given (who gave timing with gaps less than 5 minutes). Guys without proper studying and thinking do not blame drivers. If they do not bring specified collection by end of the day, his or bus owner will not allow him to drive next day, hence how he can maintain his day-to-day life. ? Catch hold the people / dept who given permits within so less time gap.

College days, I used..run from home at last moment saying I should not miss the EXPRESS Bus
Neglecting even brake fast prepared by mom with love .daye !! For simple reason I am late…..
By the time I reach Bus stand I see a local bus waiting for me to get inn, I used feel even though I miss two three local buses.. I take express I reach faster !!!
No matter I hang out …no matter my hand get tired while hanging ..its Style!!!!
Ohh I was so happy they introduced BUS which flies!!!It’s just meant for me!!!
I get even happier when I see my Express bus over taking the other two local bus which already crossed the half way mark!!!
I get down at jyothi doing all sort of push pull…circus!! I am at sky saying I reached faaaast!!
Those time thanked driver for his marvelous, adventures, risky driving ….
Now today I am commenting on this accident …feeling in mind what a careless, negligence, overconfident .. Driver who caused this accident!
What if those days my express bus driver had caused an accident!!
    What a dilemma ….!What a irony!!
I wanted things fast...and my express driver he just tried to serve me!!!He just tried to help me reach faaaaaast!!
Whom to blame …driver or me who provoked and supported driver to drive faster!!
It’s just that every bus is express now days ….its the completion among drivers/bus owners who would take the lazy traveler like me who never start early …!!
Arthaath: Buddi banda mele thiddi…helidare …guddi maadida gaya maasi hogadu!!

Mangalore Private Bus drivers will never change, although there so many accidents claiming innocent life of people they never come to sense coz speed is their motto,

Speedy drivers should be pulled out of buses and thrashed so badly that they never repeat the mistake.

Hence there is only pvt Bus Facility, that is the reason they behave how ever they want.

Dear Ramesh, speed governors may not be of much help here. In a place where one can comfortably drive at 40 kmh, at times depending on the circumstances he may have to drive at 20 kmh. In such case if the driver still tries to drive at 40 kmh, he may end up with an accident. We cannot have different speed governors setting automatically at different driving conditions! End of the day it is the driver who should have drivng sense and road sense. I wish all the injured a speedy recovery.
