Dubai : 9-year-old Boy Drowns in Pool at Birthday Bash

Dubai, Jun 28 (Emirates 24 x 7) : In a shocking and tragic incident a nine-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool in a building in Dubai on Tuesday night

Bony Joseph Junior was celebrating his friend's birthday party in Karama area of Dubai when the incident occured.

Many buildings in Dubai do not have full time lifeguards manning swimming pools despite a strict order from the Dubai Municipality making it mandatory.

In several buildings watchmen themselves double up as lifeguards.

The youngster is a student of Our Own English High School, Al Warqa 3. The parents from Ernakulam in Kerala, India have been living in Dubai for a while.

The School officials confirmed the incident and said the boy was a student of Grade Four.

“The students in his class are all in a shock. We just got to know the incident. We will be contacting the parents after a while,” said a school staff.

The friend whose birthday he was celebrating however was not from the same school.

June 26, 2011: A four-year-old boy drowns in a swimming pool at his family villa in Sharjah.

May 9, 2011: A three-year-old Emirati girl goes into coma after being found face down in a pool in Abu Dhabi.

April 14, 2011: Popular Indian playback singer K. S. Chitra’s eight-year-old daughter drowns in a swimming pool in a Dubai villa.

    May the soul of the deceased Bony Joseph rest in eternal peace. I feel sorry for the parents who recently moved from Kerala to Dubai to make a better future for themselves and the boy. But man proposes and God disposes. It was God's will but life should go on. Parents should be vigil when young kids go for a swim even if they are good swimmers. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved parents, family members and friends.When you see no life guards in the swimming pool please do not allow the children to swim.

    CHILDREN AT THAT AGE NORMALLY DO NOT HAVE AN IDEA THAT WATER CAN KILL THEM NOR THE PRE-FEAR OF DROWNING LIKE ADULTS HAVE. I HAD FACED THE SIMILAR INCIDENT IN OUR BUILDING WHEN A SIMILAR AGED FRIEND OF MY SON JUMPED INTO THE POOL AFTER SEEING MY SON IN WATER. BUT THE LAD HAD NO KNOWLEDGE WHATSOEVER ABOUT SWIMMING. WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY HE WAS RESCUED AS I DO NOT KNOW SWIMMING EITHER. LIKE MR. GANESH BHAT WROTE IT IS SOLELY THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE HOST FAMILY ELDERS TO ASCERTAIN THE SAFETY OF THE INNOCENT ANGELS UNTIL THEY LEAVE THE PREMISES.

    I fully agree with Sachidanand Shetty, Mundkur/Dubai.When a Boy swims even in shallow water the moment water comes upto nose level within 2 or 3 minutes the child can get drowned .Hence when the Child is swimming a constant watch should be put on the Child that Parents alone can do .A watch man cannot keep eye on 100 s of Children .

    Apartment from blaming Building Maintenance Team, we have to hold concerned Parents also responsible for such tragic events. Children known for their mischief every now & then, but elders should also go behind them when you know that Swimming Pool is nearby when ever such Party being organized. Let us pay together our heartfelt homage to Late Bony Joseph Junior and pray with God to give rebirth of a child with Bony’s heart so that his bereaved Parents can bear the loss of their beloved child
