Rome, Jun 28 (IANS/AKI): A judge in Rome has thrown out a tax evasion case against former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi and 11 others.
Judge Pierluigi Balestrieri said there was not enough evidence to try Berlusconi, his son Piersilvio and 10 others for evading 10 million euros in taxes in 2004 and 2005.
The case involved Berlusconi's Mediaset broadcasting empire.
On June 18, prosecutors asked the court to sentence Berlusconi to three years and eight months for fraud for allegedly inflating the price paid for TV rights and using the profits for an illegal slush fund. Berlusconi denies any wrongdoing.
The case focused on TV and movie rights acquired by Berlusconi's Fininvest holding company for 470 million euros 1994-1999.
