Udupi, Jun 28: Over 20 persons have been injured in a head-on collision between an express bus and a tanker on national highway 66 at Pangala here on Thursday June 28.

The accident occured at a junction on the national highway where work is under progress.

The bus was plying from Mangalore to Udupi while the tanker, said to be from Rajasthan, was plying in the opposite direction.

It is said that the tanker driver was travelling at a high speed and rammed into the bus head-on.

Of the bus passengers injured, seven are said to have sustained grave injuries. The driver of the tanker is critical.

Following the accident, traffic was jammed for over an hour, extending up to two kilometres on both ends of the highway. Heavy rains also marred rescue efforts.

Kaup circle inspector Shivananda Valekar, SI Archana, and other police personnel arrived at the spot.

More details awaited.

The best way to avoid this is to fix the radar on the highway and hidden radar on the way.

Our drivers will not change thier attitude of rash driving until they are not penalised.

No point in blaming bus drivers after the accident occurs !! Its time people take matters in their own hands and bash up the bus driver if the bus in which they are travelling is driven rash .

If people ignore, they are always at a risk .

Bus drivers dont fear cops or the law . Its time the public does it , if not for anyone else , for their own lives

Accidents have been occuring ever since NH17 and the Pangala river bridge was built probably in the late sixtys. The bridge plan was faulty, but lack of awareness, adequate traffic signs and total disregard to speed breakers or lack of them has resulted in numerous accidents. Hope the new four lane expressway may solve this problem. Aslo put up multilingual road signs.

Due to road work on most of the highways, road accidents on the rise. Drivers as well as pedestrians should be very careful. Some of these drivers do not care whether the roads are under repair or under construction for road widening or flyover. In this case I feel the bus driver was at fault as he must have been speeding and injured 20 passengers some of them critically and even the tanker driver seems to be in a grave condition. Moreover there are no proper signs for the drivers to follow. Even the drivers get confused without proper signs.

I am sure it is not a Tanker mistake it is Bus driver mistake, when you see the accident side, bus was may be over speeding to reach in time, because tanker is belongs to other state may be our police twisting the case, and I worked for Insurance 19 years in accident department and I can surely say it is Bus driver neglency.

The driver of bus was driving like a maniac.
Even in rains he was speeding and didn't brake, due to his negligence this has happened.
My bro who was in this bus, by god's grace escaped with a cut on his eye, and his lips has swollen.
    Damn you maniac driver.
Padubidri-Udupi stretch has been worse for commuters, where drivers don't even care for passenger.
Even buses equipped with ABS thinks twice, but this maniac driver was speeding and he has hit the tanker.
The one who has posted in Daiji, think before you post, how can a tanker do a high speed driving.
The driver of the bus is at fault, Police should have interceptor in this region.
Its just easy to target outside state vehicle.
If driver doesn't care for his life, he should atleast care for others, instead of just collection.

Very sad to see that more and more people are injured everyday because of these buses. But I am happy that 2 less reckless buses are off the road. It is funny to see that 11 pictures out of 12 are showing every angle of the tanker while only one picture shows the bus which cannot be identified. Is there some special agenda behind this episode.

Don't blame only the bus drivers.
Blame falls on the profit-oriented bus owners who put too much pressure on the bus drivers and the conductors to take in as many passengers as possible and make as many trips as possible per day.
Impose heavy fine on the bus owners.
    Accidents will naturally decrease.

It is reported as the tanker is responsible for the occurrence. Looking at the pictures posted, it looks otherwise. Those who are aware of the principle of velocity will definitely know ,who is responsible. As you all aware.

Head on Collusion is totally the wreckless driving of both the Drivers. Accidents can happen but not the Head on Collusions.. The Drivers should be heavily penalized along with a Jail Sentence withour bail. Hope and pray that the four lane road work is completed within time from Mangalore to Kundapur so that we will have a safe road journey from Mangalore to Kundapur.

NH66/Nh17 we need to reduce our speed. Speed kills we all know about it there is no check by police to control the speed. Please person who incharge of this have to think seriously to control the speed limit of the all these buses and trucks on nh66. Life is precious. Please do something to stop the speed of all these vehicles.
