Mangalore: Rs 5 Cr Sanctioned for Bridge Construction in Twin Districts: Nagaraj Shetty

Mangalore, Jun 28: "The state government has sanctioned Rs five crore for the construction of footbridges across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi," said Nagaraj Shetty, chairman of coastal development authority at a press meet here on Thursday June 28.

In 2010-11, a report was prepared for the construction of 430 footbridges in coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttar Kannada under the coastal development authority chaired by Nagaraj Shetty.

"In this regard, the Sadananda Gowda government sanctioned Rs five crore for the construction of 142 footbridges in Dakshina Kannada and 45 in Udupi. The project has been handed over to the zilla panchayats for their smooth flow," Shetty said.

"The coastal development authority with financial assistance from the state government is constructing ten fish markets, out of which, work on eight has been completed. A connecting road has also been planned from fisheries in Talapady to Karwar. A two-lane concrete road plan has been put forth and the final fiscal report has been prepared," he said, adding that he will call a meeting in the next ten days to discuss the project with the chief minister.

"Kudremukh also comes under the coastal development authority, where more importance will be given for rehabilitation of families residing in naxal areas. Special package as part of rehabilitation will be provided to families based on the value of their properties," he said.
 
Shetty said that he has already discussed this matter with union minister Jairam Ramesh and a Rs 100 crore package had been put forth for rehabilitating the families.
