Udupi, Jun 30: Thousands of devotees flocked to Sri Krishna Math on Saturday June 30 at 9 am for ‘Tapta Mudradharane’, a Madhwa tradition and religious ceremony.

Sri Vishwavallabhatirtha Swamiji of Paryaya Sode Vadhiraja Math administered ‘Tapta Mudradharane’ to the devotees.

Tapta Mudradharane is the process of heating metal, which is in the form of 'Shankha Chakra' in Sudarshana Homa and marking  the 'Mudra' on the body of the devotees. As per tradition the Tapta Mudradharane is to be performed at least once in a year.

One of the devotees told daijiworld, "The ritual is practiced in the rainy season. It has the power to prevent  many diseases caused by the germs. Therefore, the Tapta Mudradharane works as a prevention against diseases, especially those more prevalent in the raining season. It strengthens the immune system by protecting one from diseases."

Sources said that the mudras are in the form of weapons of the Gods, the Shanka Chakra, symbolizing that these mudras are weapons or shields that help one fight diseases.

In addition, Vidyavallabhatirtha Swamiji of Sri Kaniyoor Math, Udupi and Sri Laxmivaratirtha Swamiji of Paryaya Shiroor Math conducted the ceremony in their respective Maths early morning.
