Mangalore: Children of Gonzaga School Learn About Nutrition the Fun Way

Mangalore, Jul 1: The facilitators at Gonzaga school under St Aloysius Institutions aim to make good nutrition a way of life and create an awareness among their students to start a healthy, thereby nurturing a happier and healthy generation. The academic year is brimming with interesting projects wherein the nutrition project is one. This project taps the creative faculty of students and ushers innovative ideas to make education practical, joyous and conducive to the all-round development of the child.

The project was introduced by principal Grace Noronha recently during the general assembly. Charts related to the essential five nutrients were displayed. The principal emphasized on the importance of having a healthy breakfast.

The entire week was packed with a wide range of activities related to nutrition. Housewise poster making activity was also conducted where the students contributed enthusiastically. A field trip to Spar at City Centre enriched the children’s knowledge on the varied food grains, fish, meat, and vegetables and provided practical knowledge to the students.

The grand finale of the maiden project took place on Saturday June 30 which is also associated with the British Council International School Award (ISA), a benchmark scheme that accredits schools as having an outstanding level of support for its teaching practice.

The presence of parents on this day reinforced the cohesive bonds of the Gonzagian family.

To make the finale enjoyable a wide range of programmes like action songs on fruits and vegetables, a dance and a skit related to balanced diet were presented. The children relished a wholesome cup of fresh corn prepared by the teaching faculty of Gonzaga at the end of the program. Aditya Thomas of class IV proposed the vote of thanks. Fr Elvis Lewis, manager of Gonzaga School, presided over the function. Dr Murali Keshav, a renowned paediatrician who was the chief guest contributed valued inputs on nutrition. Fr Michael John was the guest of honour. Under the able guidance of principal Grace Noronha the program was a grand success.

The programme was compered by Prafulla Tulluri in style.
