Bangalore: Shettar Elected Karnataka BJP Legislature Party Leader

BJP High Command Bows Down Again - TWO Deputy CMs for State?

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Jul 10: Once again, the BJP high command has bowed down to the pressure of 'caste' politics within the party. After hectic discussions with the Yeddyurappa and the D V Sadananda Gowda factions, the high command has now decided to create two deputy chief minister (DCM) posts in the state.

With this, the BJP has found a temporary solution for the sudden crisis stirred by the DVS group.

To make the Vokkaliga community happy, BJP has decided to give one deputy chief minister's post to R Ashok, who is currently holding home and transport ministrty.

The other DCM post will go to K S Eshwarappa, who is representing the third largest community in the state, the Kuruba community (Congress leader Siddaramaiah also belongs to the same community).

The high command thus managed to convince both the groups and the issue regarding the naming of new state BJP president and other ministers will be taken up in New Delhi in the coming days.

On July 12, Shettar, Ashok and Eshwarappa will be sworn in.

The rest of the political scene has shifted to New Delhi, for the time being!

Report from IANS:

Bangalore: Shettar Elected Karnataka BJP Legislature Party Leader

Bangalore, Jul 10 (IANS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators in Karnataka elected on Tuesday Jagadish Shettar as their new leader to make him the party's third chief minister in the state in four years.

"The BJP legislature party meeting has been convened here at 11 a.m. Tuesday to unanimously elect Shettar as the new leader through a resolution. The meeting will be presided by central observers Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley," a party spokesman had earlier told IANS.

A day after BJP president Nitin Gadkari announced in New Delhi Sunday that Shettar would replace incumbent Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, hectic parleys were held throughout Monday in the party state unit, with ministers, lawmakers and cadres discussing the legislature meeting and formation of the new government ,including cabinet representations.

Party state in charge Dharmendra Pradhan held discussions with leaders and legislators at the party office in the city and called on Shettar, Gowda and party general secretary Ananth Kumar for a smooth change of the government.

"Efforts are on to pass a unanimous resolution at the legislators' meeting electing Shettar as the leader to head the new government. Gowda will be requested to move the one-line resolution,"  the spokesman said.

Gowda is likely call on Governor H.R. Bhardwaj early Tuesday at Raj Bhavan to submit his resignation and proceed to a hotel in the city centre for the legislature party meeting. After the meeting, Shettar will meet the governor and stake claim to form the government with the resolution from the party state unit president (K.S.Eshwarappa) appointing him the leader of the house (assembly), the spokesman said.

On receiving the governor's letter inviting him to form the government, Shettar will decide onthe oath-taking ceremony in consultation with the party leaders.

In a related development, hundreds of Vokkaligas community members, including lawmakers and cadres across parties, Monday protested against the ouster of Gowda, allegedly on caste considerations. Heads of social and religious organisations belonging to the Vokkaliga community joined rallies and held demonstrations across Bangalore, Mandya and Mysore, criticising the BJP for playing caste politics and succumbing to the pressures of the rival Lingayat community to replace Gowda with Shettar as its third chief minister in the state.

Though Lingayats are a dominant community in the state constituting around 17 percent of the 65 million people across the state, Vokkaligas are also an equally powerful caste group accounting for 16 percent of the population

Bowing to the mounting pressure of former chief minister B.S Yeddyurappa and his supporters for a change in the party leadership, the BJP high command decided to replace Gowda with Shettar with an eye on the next assembly elections due in Apri-lMay 2013.

Gowda became the ruling party second chief minister August 4, 2011 after scam-hit Yeddyurappa resigned July 31 following his indictment by then Karnataka Lokayukta (ombudsman) Justice (retired) N. Santosh Hegde on bribery charge in the multi-crore mining scam that rocked the state.

The HINDU foundation of BJP is ensuring CASTE factors in appointments for CM / DCM / Part Chief etc., that's fine, we have no choice, after all they have a little over a year in Karnataka to rake in the moolah / cover up their tracks in the scams and corruption charges. What if the same CASTE factor comes into play in the appointments of Heads of state run corporations ? still no problem, but what if the appointments for sensitive jobs have to be vetted on Caste basis ?? still no problem - not assume the BJP is at the CENTER .. then Caste & releigion will decide who the 3 Armed Chiefs of staff will be ? The supreme court judge ?

The President and the Ministers all appointed on the basis of caste ?? Sadly any country ruled by Religious agenda has never prospered - case in point Pakistan, Bangladesh, and many of the Muslim nations in the African continent. How life has changed for us can be gauged by the comments of some of our hard core readers of Daijji - who are blinded by fanaticism and don't know their front form their back. The congress too is partly responsible for vote catching on the communal plank.

There is a story of a blind emperor who was extremely short tempered and wanted the most beautiful cloths on earth and summoned all the top cloth makers to make a set for him failing which he will cut their heads! He rejected many cloths and along with it went the heads of many a cloth maker also. Finally a brave intelligent fellow came forward and told the emperor that he has a beautiful set of cloths but it is not visible to the emperor but only the people will be able to see it and admire and the cloths were as light as air. Even though emperor had the doubt, the cloth maker convinced him that the cloths is indeed beautiful, light and invisible to the king.

Finally the Emperor ageed to wear the cloths and the cloth maker helped the naked emperor to wear the invisible cloths and the emperor was so happy that he paraded himself through the town to show the new cloths he was wearing and all people clapped and told the emperor that the cloths were so beautiful and they have never seen them in their lives and no one has this beautiful cloths anywhere on earth. Hearing this the naked emperor was so happy that he could not control his happiness and started dancing on the carriage. Just then a small child laughed loudly at the emperor. Seeing this, the emperor was angry and asked the child why he laughed at him when he was wearing the most beautiful cloths on earth. The child laughed more loudly again and told the emperor him that he is not wearing anything but is totally naked. Now the emperor knew that he was indeed naked and he was fooled by everybody fearing his anger and consequences.

But what he can do now? He was already naked in the middle of the town and surrounded by thousands of people who were still clapping. This is a story I have told in my childhood. Today the BJP in Karnataka is exactly in the same position of the naked emperor and the child who will point this to them will be the voter. Till then let them enjoy naked parade.

We need to have a strong opposition to cut short the drama that's happening with the people who are in power today. Both are elected by the people and once they are elected, people have no choice to voice their opinions.Really respect great leaders of esteryears who really work to their assignments and non of them amassed wealth or were powermongers.Educated citizens should vote, not on the basis of caste, creed, colour, doles etc. It's a pity that politics in karnataka is in abyss.

Now there is going to be wine dine & dance among the party members/ministers, as our 3rd CM in four years has arrived, and who will be 5th CM before next election? it’s all in the game, enjoying tax payers money, as nobody is to question them, It shows what extend they can go up to just for “CHAIR” We have very few honest ministers say 2 out of 10,Rest of ministers see their own betterment and well being not what general public needs? There drama will never end, how does it matter to them, they know money spend on their luxury living is from public, Karnataka is highest tax eater ( hungry for money) from public, for everything they tax us highly so that they have enough balance to spend for themselves.
