Mangalore: MCC Bans All Forms of Posters, Hoardings in City

Mangalore, Jul 12: After training their guns on illegal and unauthorized businesses in the city, the officials of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) have turned their attention on posters and hoardings across the city, in a bid to keep the city 'neat and tidy'.

The MCC had issued a deadline of July 31, after which hoardings and posters in the city would be banned in public and private places, as per the decision taken at the recent general council meeting of the MCC.

Acting on the decision, on Thursday July 12, the MCC officials took down hoardings in Yeyyadi.

Speaking to daijiworld, MCC commissioner Dr Harish Kumar K said, "In an effort to keep the city neat and maintain its beauty and landscape, posters on government/private buildings, electric polls, compound walls and elsewhere in the city will be completely banned. Legal action will be taken against violators."

Apart from posters, the commissioner stressed that hereafter only those hoardings which are approved by the MCC will be allowed in the city and penalty will be imposed on those who do not take prior permission to put up hoardings.

"Anyone found  guilty will be dealt with according to the provisions under the Karnataka Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act-1981," he said, adding that the MCC officials have already started their operation in Yeyyadi.

In addition, posters related to the cinema, events (example, Jumbo Circus), politics and commercials will be completely banned in the city.

"Presently, no alternative methods of publicity have been discussed, however, if theatre owners or citizens demand space for promotion, then we will allot the same in hoardings according to MCC rules," Harish Kumar said, adding that MCC is ready to discuss objections to the ban.
