Mangalore: Monappa Bhandary Elected MLC Unopposed

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Jul 14: Monappa Bhandary, former district president of BJP has been elected as a member of the state legislative council. The election for the seat, which was left vacant after the death of former minister Dr V S Acharya, was scheduled to take place on July 25.

As Congress and JD(S) were not interested in fielding their candidates for the seat, Monappa Bhandary was elected unopposed.

Bhandary can occupy the MLC post till the year 2014.

Monappa Bhandary was a strong contender for the MLC post since long. He had been looking to win the local body election to get entry into the legislative council, but the BJP decided to continue with Kota Srinivas Poojary last year for that seat. In 2003 he had contested the local body election to get elected to the upper house, but he lost.
