Udupi, Jul 16: 'Yuva Mahotsava' of Kallianpur deanery ICYM was held on Sunday July 15 at Swarna Bhavan of the Holy Family Church hall. ICYM Brahmavar unit organized the programme.
Fr Stany B Lobo inaugurated the day-long programme by lighting the lamp. Jasmine Mendonca read out the annual report of the deanery. Eight parish unit secretaries also produced their annual reports on the occasion.
Fr Antony Vaz, parish priest of Holy Family Church, presided over the inaugural ceremony, while Fr Stany B Lobo, vicar var of Kallianpur deanery was the chief guest.
The deanery committee for 2012-13 was elected and Rohan Fernandes of Thottam Parish was elected the president. While Louzine Pereira of Barkur and Jennifer Lobo of Kolalgiri were elected vice-presidents, Sheetal Fernandes of Thottam and Lester Pais of Brahmavar were elected secretary and joint secretary respectively. Waylon Machdo of Milagreas was chosen sports and cultural secretary, while Royal D’souza of Petri the district council representative.
Leslie Aroza of Thottam parish, Fr Ivan Michael Rodrigues, director Kallianpur deanery ICYM, Janet D’Souza, secretary parish pastor council of Holy Family Church, Owin Rebello, president of Udupi District ICYM, Ivan D'Silva, president - Kallianpur deanery ICYM, Jasmine Mendonca secretary of Kallianpur deanery ICYM, and Mario Barnes, president of Holy Family ICYM Unit were present on the dais.
Fr Stany Lobo in his inaugural speech said that people need to give importance to human life and human values. He congratulated all the eight parish units on their participation.
He further said, "Every moment in our lives is important. We have to work according to the situation and should accept the good things that come to us. Once we miss out on opportunities they do not come back and hence we have to grab them as they arrive."
In his presidential address, Fr Antony mentioned that the youth are the future of the community.
Ivan Dsilva welcomed the guests at the inaugural function. Mario Barnes delivered the vote of thanks.
Leslie Aroza in his hour-long interaction and group decision with the youth said that today one of the main problems with the youth is the 'stress' factor. "It builds in different ways, and it might lead at times to suicide," he said.
"This stress factor leads us to wrong habits. We get addicted to bad habits because of social factors. When we are born into this world, we do not get into wrongdoings. As we grow, our social life expands and we get influenced by the wrong people and habits," he said.
Owin Rebello conducted a few games for the participants. Seven parish youth showcased a cultural programme on the occasion.
Fr Dominic Vegas was the chief guest at the valedictory ceremony. Ex-president Ivan D'Silva handed over the deanery ICYM responsibilities to the newly-elected president Rohan Fernandes. They lit a candle as a symbol of the formation of the new committee. Fr Ivan, Owin Rebello was present on the dais.
Fr Ivan welcomed the gathering and Joel Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.
