Mangalore: Auto Driver Monthu Lobo to be Honoured with 'Sarathi No 1' Award

Mangalore, Jul 16: 76-year-old Monthu Lobo, an auto driver known for his social service activities and honesty, will be conferred the 'Sarathi No 1' award a ceremony to be held at Sri Puttanna Chetty Town Hall in Bangalore on July 28.
The felicitation programme is being organized by Indian Vehicle Drivers 'Trade Union to mark World Working Drivers Day. 'Sarathi No 1' award is bestowed on drivers who have rendered meritorious service to the society.
Hailing from Valencia parish, this zealous auto driver is an example to his colleagues. He is an avid philanthropist and renders his service to society for after work.
He runs his auto from Kankanady junction. Monthu Lobo is a social worker who has shown his sincerity through his work and service to the needy. His work includes providing water taps to areas which are in need of it, water taps to schools, hospitals, computers to schools, uniforms to needy school children, sandals, clothes and even eatables to orphanages and needy children in Mangalore and even other far off places.
Montu has served as an auto driver for more than half a century, and there has been not a single instance of police case or accident. Recognizing his unique feat he was felicitated by the RTO and the district administration in 2008, by the then deputy commissioner Mahesh Rao. He got his driving license way back in 1957, and was one of the first auto drivers in the city to get licence.
