Kundapur, Jul 18: The Udupi Lokayukta on Wednesday July 18 raided the office of the sub-registrar here and seized unaccountable cash from three employees.

The team raided the office at around 5.45 pm, and continued the operation till night.

The team recovered Rs 20,615 in cash, out of which Rs 17,900 was found with sub-registrar Kavita, Rs 1,645 with Anand and Rs 1,070 with Vanajakshi.

The police also took custody of Anand and registered cases against Kavita and Vanajakshi.

Speaking to the mediapersons, Lokayukta SP Jagamayyanawar said that the raid was conducted in the wake of several complaints from the public that there were irrugularities in the functioning of the sub-registrar's office.

"The sub-registrar's office is not functioning properly. Day-to-day accounts of the fees collected for various registrations and transactions should be maintained. However, it was not the case here. A thorough investigation will be conducted in this regard," he said.

Lokayukta DySP Sadanand Y Varnekar, sub-inspectors Timmayya and B P Dineshkumar, police personnel Riyaz Ahmed, Sridhar G, Nagesh Udupa, Divakar Kumar, Ramachandra, Shivaraj Billava, Shobha and others were involved in the operation.

    Well done Lokayukta.
Please note that, the Document Writer's who are sitting outside are the main culprits. They act as an agent to the officials & collect money on their behalf.
Even if all the documents are in order they raise unrealted issues to delay the process to collect some extra money. All this happens because there is "NO fixed policy & time frame to complete the job".

    Hats-off you Capt.Cornelio,Udyavar.
If everybody does as what you did 22 years ago, we can stop this corruption.
People want their job to be done easily & quickly. That’s why they bribe them.
One way we are encouraging them. Aren't we equally responsible for this corruption!!

    Dear Lokayukta,
What you caught is a small fishes. Raid the Mangalore Sub-Registrar's office at around 4 PM. Minimum 8 to 10 thousand they are demanding as bribe for each and every registration. Its a open secrete. Lokayutka also knew this. Catch these big sharks and show your credibility.

RS 17,900.00 rupees belong to Govt or unaccounted cash?which is not mentioned in the report. If that amount said to be a day's income, which should be subject to confirmation, then we may come to the conclusion that KAVITAKKA is an big fish!!!!!.

It is astonishing that daily book of accounts are not maintained properly that means something is going on Sub Registrar office for sure! Those two other staffs are small fishes but enough to make big amount end of the month.

Lokayukta done good job and we need them to take care of Tahasildar's complex and revenue department of Taluk and Hobli level where average citizen's purses were emptied by disgruntled officials even for small work.

Of course Sub-Registrar Kavitha was carrying Rs 17,900 to buy lunch. She does so every day. Somedays she carries more if she is really hungry. Things are so expensive these days.

Good work by Lokayukta.SRO and RTOs are breeding centre for corruption. All the SROs in the state should be subjected for raides without notice. They should be induced to live their life from the salary what government is paying.Initially it may be difficult for them to do so but can adjusted slowly.

In 1990 when i brought a property in udupi sub registrar asked for bribe 10 percent of the stamp duty(6000).even office staff told me its a normal fees here.i refused to pay and told him if u dont want to register no problem i will take care of it.anyway they did the job without paying a paise.to be honest these document writers are also share the booty with these corrupt officials.I am happy it took 22 years to raid that place. In my opinion all ex sub.registrars homes should be raided and confiscate that ill gotten wealth taken from poor and innocent.Lok Ayukta staff congrats keep up the good work.
