Mangalore, Jul 24: Thieves broke into Shree Ramalinga Chowdeshwari Temple at Emmekere here in the wee hours of Tuesday July 24 and decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 5 lac.

The temple is located behind Ramakrishna Math in Mangaladevi. Sources said that the theft took place after the 8.30 pm puja on Monday July 23.

The incident came to light in the morning when temple priest Chandrashekar entered the temple at 5.30 am.

Initial investigations revealed that the thieves stole 5 kg of silver from the entrance dome of Garbagudi. Silver crown, gold chain, nose ornament, silver Trishul and other ornaments of the idol placed in Garbagudi were also stolen.

In all, thieves took away seven kg of silver, two sovereign gold and Rs 20,000 in cash, totalling Rs 5 lac.

A lady at the temple had a vision that the thieves are from Mangalore and are hiding within the city.

A case has been registered at Pandeshwar police station.

..Mr.Oliver i dont think jewellary offered to temple can be treated as Govt property..It is Devotees hard earned money who give to temples as Seva..It is Hindu culture, nobody can question that...You may give as charity to some institutions, Muslims as Zakath..Mode of offer may be different but purpose is one i.e get blessings from the Almighty..Nobody can make 100% sure that your charity/Zakath may used for good purpose only.. Do you think Govt will use Temples money for any good, there are hundreds of temple which are in poor state without basics usch as Road, sanitary..better Hindu temples come out from control of the Govt (as there is no control over Church & masjid) and form management committees locally...there may be some internal feud between members but it is common to all religion...

    Dear Francis, Managalore,

It was in the lighter viens!

What I meant was that the country is robbed each day but nothing affects us or daylight rejection by the authorities to take any action. In this incident, none of us gets affected.

Your suggestion of cctv camera indeed very intelligent. But, do not underestimate thieves. They are far more inteliigent than what you think - more stratergic (just like our politicians)!

I think Damodar Bhat makes a great point to be noted. The valuables is public property and should be protected by the State.

    Rakesh Shetty,

Let me remind you that we live in a democracy, and we have a judiciary system in place to bring violators to justice. We don't "punish people badly in public".

If gold is removed from the Hundi , the Bhatta's family will enjoy it ! There will be no account for it .... and forever !Anyway there is no receipt given to the doner when it is put into the Hundi.

Look at it from this angle. This gold has gone into the hands of a poor man.The rich will not need it nor will God.

Just for you to note : after the tragic air crash in Mangalore there were thieves roaming around for gold from the victims !

God doesn’t Care for wealth, all he wants is our pure love/faith/devotion in him,
Our God never gets disturbed if someone abuses/breaks his idol /doesn’t believe in him,
God is nirvikar, nirakar, saguna, swaroop, but at times he does assumes different forms,
Lord Krishna has said - if someone abuses /disturbs/ his beloved devotee then the evildoer not be spared.
This is evident when lord krishna to save the devotees from getting into trouble has disguised himself as Senanpith barber and served the Moghul king,
he disguised himself as Sakubai, and did all household chores at house of her in-laws till sakubai returned from pilgrimage,
For his devotee( Narshi Mehta) , lord even performed the marriage of his daughter and the list is endless.
Culprits will be punished if god is willing or he may be left free so stop worrying about our Gods.

If you steel in god's house, no tears or sadness. God only must have shown them the way!

See how good God is if a poor man or others would have been robbed, it is almost a tragedy. Here, nothing to feel bad. Here, no one except God. God doesn't need all this and his ways of taking care of his people is strange.

Gold , Silver ,cash etc gifted to Temples should be State property. They should be accounted for and lodged with State Bank of India.Such valuables should not be kept in unguarded places.

If a thief is interviewed , I'm sure you will find that he is a school out or is uneducated / unemployed. This is a big social problem in the world.Compulsory education and a few years of military training will set right things to an extent in India.People today see politicians with tonnes of money & fancy cars / lifestyle. So they too want money the easy way.Murders too take place for money.Theft is the solution for these few.
